Basic Function

This position supervises the Laboratory Technicians to ensure the safe and efficient operations of the Laboratory at the Louisiana Integrated PolyEthylene JV LLC site. The supervisor and shift team provide efficient and cost-effective routine and non-routine analytical and physical testing on products produced and/or samples generated at this site.  Laboratory Supervisors are also accountable for ensuring working safely, independently, and efficiently while always seeking to implement methods which reduce costs, improve quality, and reduce the potential for injury. You will be accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers, promoting a safe work environment, and the oversight of all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.

Roles & Responsibilities

•Ensures the accurate and timely completion of analytical testing.
•Ensures appropriate staffing of the work areas on shift.
•Verifies analytical results meet specification and LyondellBasell’s quality standard.
•Troubleshoots instrumentation problems, when necessary.
•Interfaces with Operations to coordinate analytical workload and facilitate the transfer of data.
•Accountable for developing a high performing shift team and developing individual skills and abilities, including discipline when appropriate.
•Works with Chemists and management to ensure the Laboratory meets business and site objectives.
•Generating Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) for shipments.
•Maintains knowledge of Laboratory procedures, equipment, and personnel to meet the safety, environmental and quality objectives of the Laboratory.
•Responsible for writing work notifications and permits.
•Reports, investigates, and initiates corrective actions in the Laboratory. Actively troubleshoots problems and develops plans to resolve issues.
•Works with other Shift Supervisors to train and evaluate Technician performance. Ensures that policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are followed.
•Communicates “relief information” to other Supervisors for continuity during “off-hours”.
•Accountability for Laboratory housekeeping and accurate completion of discipline documentation.

Min. Qualifications

•Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalency.
•Must have one of the following:

  •  A Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 4 years’ laboratory experience
  •  An Associates degree with a minimum of 6 years’ laboratory experience 
  •  A minimum of 8 years’ laboratory experience

•Working knowledge of laboratory techniques/instrumentation.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as well as exceptional interpersonal skills for effective interfacing across all departments within LyondellBasell.
•Leadership, coaching and supervision skills are required.
•The position requires good knowledge of Company policies, Laboratory operating procedures, basic maintenance procedures, health, safety and environmental regulations and employee policies and practices.
•The individual should be organized, work well in a team atmosphere and show the ability to develop and lead teams.
 

Preferred Qualifications

•Experience with chromatography, physical property testing, and wet methods.
•Plant Operations familiarity
•Supervision experience
