Basic Function

The HSE Industrial Hygiene Specialist will be responsible for Championing GoalZERO behaviors across all personnel and drive continuous improvement of the health and medical programs. This position will also be responsible for driving compliance with the State and Federal medical and health programs. This position is required to work with sitewide personnel including contractors to improve the health and medical programs at the site.   


Roles & Responsibilities

•    Implements and maintains various industrial hygiene/occupational health (IH/OH) related programs to measure and minimize employee exposures to chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic stressors
•    Develops and conducts sampling strategies and executes IH surveys to monitor and assess employees' exposure to health risks
•    Measures the effectiveness of IH/OH programs, policies, and procedures
•    Maintains IH  monitoring equipment, including but not limited to, multi-gas meters, radiation survey instruments, noise dosimetry’s, etc.
•    Provides support as directed to site medical for related activities, protocols and processes
•    Conducts regular audits of health and medical programs
•    Ensures employee awareness of IH/OH concerns, programs, and regulations by conducting training and presentations
•    Implements corrective actions and suspending operations if required
•    Develops regulatory and professional knowledge regularly
•    Advises and collaborates with others across the organization as necessary to resolve IH/OH issues
•    Assists with resolution of specific health related issues
•    Provides work direction or serves as a liaison with 3rd party contractors and service providers
•    Provides necessary research for IH and other related health and program issues
•    Assists with other health, safety, and environmental activities as directed
•    Provides support as directed to emergency response activities
•    Conducts a hazard review and approves newly purchased chemicals 
•    Ability to represent company with regulatory agencies
•    Is able to act as a Radiation Safety Officer

Min. Qualifications

•    High School Diploma (or equivalent) with a minimum of 6 years’ of experience in a petrochemical manufacturing environment 
•    Associate’s Degree in health and/or medical filed is preferred   
•    Candidates with medical background such as Registered Nurse (RN) is a plus

•    Excellent communication, presentation, systemic thinking and interpersonal skills to help the HSE department, operations, and other functional groups implement those process changes or procedures necessary to comply with the regulations and requirements
•    Ability to persuade and influence with no direct authority
•    Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with potentially competing priorities
