Basic Function

Working in a team environment, the Project Manager is responsible for managing/developing and optimizing capital projects and ensure business requirements are in line with the project objectives and deliverables. The position interacts with other Project Managers, Engineers, Specialists, and Technicians at the site, corporate technical networks, peers at other locations, and vendors/suppliers as needed to execute the capital projects and projects during turnarounds as required.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Manages assigned capital projects following a phased gate project execution model with most of the projects below $10MM.
  • Executes the assigned projects ensuring compliance with applicable standards, specifications, procedures and regulations.
  • Works with the Project Controls team to compile an estimate and schedule for the successful execution of the project, to be captured as part of the project execution plan.
  • Develops a project execution plan for each project, addressing all aspects of the execution, including engineering, design, contracting, risk management, procurement construction and close-out.
  • Develops the project definition from project conception throughout the front end loading up to the point of submitting the project for final funding.
  • Executes the project, following the project execution plan, and addresses any variance through the change management process.
  • Ensures the project meets the business objective and requirements.
  • Manages and collaborates with project stakeholders, subject matter experts, vendors, contractors and project team members for the successful execution of the project.
  • Compiles and updates project progress reports and ad hoc updates as required.

Min. Qualifications

Area of Expertise, Requirements

  • Familiar with applicable codes and standards – ASME, ANSI, API, NFPA, PSM, OSHA, Mechanical Integrity, etc.
  • The successful candidate must exhibit an understanding of business drivers
  • Experience with a phased gate project execution models and the related project requirements at the different phases of the project
  • Experience with general project controls concepts and processes include estimating, scheduling and progress monitoring
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical documents, such as:
    • PI&D’s, PFD’s
    • Blueprints and Schematics
    • One-lines and Loop sheets

Education and Work Experience 

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering or Construction
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in the refining, petrochemical, chemical process, or power generation industries
  • Experience executing brownfield plant projects
  • PMP certificate preferred

Languages English

Other skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Knowledge of software tools including SAP, document management and MOC systems
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Superior communication and written skills
  • Commitment to safety, a high level of personal integrity, and dedication to conducting business in an ethical way
