Basic Function

As a member of the Utilities Technical Team at the Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene JV site, the Process Engineer will monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize equipment that drives processes and product improvements, while maintaining strong commitment to safety and environmental compliance.  During a typical day, the Process Engineer will apply technical knowledge to analyze causes of long-term reliability issues, execute expense and capital projects, and provide general assistance troubleshooting day-to-day issues. In this role, the Process Engineer will identify, recommend, and implement strategic projects to improve unit performance. The Process Engineer will also collaborate cross-functionally to advance site goals.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Monitor, troubleshoot and optimize all utility operating units in particular high pressure steam boilers, Steam Turbine Generator, Cooling tower, Demin water trains and effluent water treatment.
  • Develop and communicate unit performance and improvement strategies to stakeholders
  • Be a strong team player, working well with Operations and other Technical groups onsite, and within LYB, to address daily production constraints and drive results
  • Determine causes of deviations in quality, capacity, yield, energy consumption, and track variable cost improvements
  • Generate monthly reliability, quality, production, energy consumption reports and support development of benchmarking data
  • Provide engineering calculations as needed to quantify environmental and/or process safety incidents
  • Support site Process Safety Management initiatives, including Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Incident Investigation
  • Provide process design support for capital projects
  • Balance day-to-day operational priorities with long term strategic objections to ensure alignment with site and company goals
  • Mentor less experienced engineers, providing technical assistance as needed
  • Maintain strong focus on safety and environmental compliance

Min. Qualifications

Area of Expertise, Requirements

  • Knowledgeable in HSE/PSM standards and practices
  • Demonstrated capability within Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with Process Engineering simulation software

Education

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering is required

 

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in petrochemical, refining, or chemical environment
  • Knowledge of Deaeration, boilers, steam and water treatment processes is preferred

 

Languages English, additional language preferred
