Principal, Electrical Engineer

Basic Function

Working in a team environment, the Electrical Engineer is responsible for implementing reliability best practices, managing/developing and optimizing capital projects; as well as supporting plant activities.  Responsibilities also include implementing best practices, developing and optimizing processes and procedures to align and comply with LyondellBasell (LYB) global standards and regulations, as well as supporting project design and construction activities. The position interacts with other engineers, specialists, and technicians at the site, corporate technical networks, peers at other locations, and vendors/suppliers as needed to resolve problems, implement solution and improve the capital project process

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support for projects in a systematic and purposeful way, which includes, but is not limited to safety, environmental, engineering, design, construction and material requisitions.
  • Review engineering and design packages within agreed timeline
  • Review, update, compile and implement the quality control systems and procedures to ensure quality assurance, including hold and review plans.   
  • Coach / mentor / train resources including sharing of technology enhancements.
  • Participate in governance, budgeting, cost reporting, estimating and scheduling activities as required.    
  • Supports all the plant groups (Process, Maintenance, Environmental, Safety, Production, etc. and Corporate Engineering) by providing engineering expertise and providing advanced troubleshooting.
  • Provides management with progress reports on assigned projects and tasks.
  • Participates in determining the optimal solution and scope of work for assigned projects.
  • Works with engineering, design and construction to make sure the optimal solution is engineered, designed and constructed.      
  • Develops, updates and provide inputs in specifications, philosophies and standards and communicate these to outside engineering and construction.
  • Participate in addressing “Request for Information” requests
  • Provides support to electrical technicians and the capital project team members as required.
  • Creates and manage MOC’s for assigned projects.

Min. Qualifications


Education and Work Experience:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience in the refining, petrochemical, chemical process, or power generation industries is preferred.
  • Experience executing plant projects.

  • Strong interpersonal leadership skills are critical due to the requirement for effective communication of complex issues across the organization as well as for mentoring and consensus building. 
  • Capital project development and execution models.
  • An understanding of business drivers, management of change requirements, reliability processes, and maintenance workflow.
  • Superior interpersonal, communication, and written skills.
  • Thorough understanding of regulations and standards pertaining to the electrical industry.
