The Operations Manager position is responsible and accountable for the Safe and Reliable operations of the Lake Charles facility. The areas of responsibility are the two Polypropylene units, Catalloy unit, CoGen, Utilities, Wastewater, Finish Product Handling, and the Laboratory.  The position is responsible for monitoring key performance indicators to ensure efficient operations, quality production and cost control to stay within the operating budget. The position aligns the Operations leadership team and their direct reports to ensure the code of conduct and other company polices and commitments are consistently and fairly administered to operating personnel.

A Day in the Life

  • Ensure life critical and safety practices and policies are followed by everyone in Operations.
  • Participate in the hazard recognition Audits and communicate findings to Operations.
  • Ensure that Quality and Environmental Policy and Objections are implemented.
  • Review Intelex incidents and ensure proper investigation and follow-up
  • Provide management review and approval of MOC’s implemented in the process.
  • Lead the Emergency Operating Center as the Operations Coordinator in the event of a plant emergency
  • Actively participate in the weekly Staff Walkarounds.
  • Ensure environmental compliance within the Operating units
  • Lead the Daily Production meetings and ensure the organization maintains a proactive reliability approach towards operational issues.
  • Ensure weekly production and reliability reports are issued to upper management and communicate Operations status in the weekly business calls.
  • Develop the annual operating budget and lead the planning process.  Drive compliance to budget.
  • Review department performance KPI’s and develop action plans to resolve variances to goal
  • Ensure weekly production schedule meetings are held between the Product Scheduler and Operations for alignment and agreement
  • Support MOWP and the writing of work notifications for repair of malfunctioning equipment
  • Pursue the use of minor maintenance where appropriate to efficiently control cost within Operations
  • Approve product trials and ensure they are vetted by Operations before approval
  • Ensure follow-up on customer Quality complaints and closure on manufacturing related issues
  • Facilitate bi-monthly Leadership team meetings with Maintenance, Operations, Training and Management to communicate changes, set expectations, align on issues, resolve problems and improve the team’s overall leadership skills.
  • Set clear performance expectations, coach and develop personnel
  • Work with the HR Business Partner to forecast attrition, put together the business case for hiring and lead the interview team in the hiring process of personnel
  • Work with the HR Business Partner to address personnel performance issues within the department
  • Participate in monthly Union/Management committee meetings
  • Participate in negotiating collective bargaining agreements with the union
  • Attend weekly Plant staff meetings and communicate progress of key departmental initiatives
  • Interpret company goals and strategies and translate them into measurable and actionable plans for the Operations department
  • Develop/update five-year Operations strategic plan for continuous improvement
  • Utilize PTAI study to benchmark operating units to identify areas for improvement
  • Supports all capital and non-capital projects in the Operations areas with focus on schedule, budget, and scope
  • Other duties as may be required or assigned

You Bring This Value

  • B.S.Degree in Engineering with 10+ year experience in a chemical manufacturing facility or 15+ years of operating experience in PP technologies.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with prior management experience
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to interface with all levels of the organization
