The individual in this position is responsible for managing the day to day safety and health programs within the Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene JV (LKO JV) site including compliance with state, federal regulations and other related safety and health standards. The successful candidate will interface with a diverse group of customers, including process and project engineering, operations, maintenance, plant management, and outside regulatory agencies.
As a member of the Health & Safety team, you will provide site technical support through participation in the identification and resolution of safety related issues and identify improvement opportunities that will positively impact the health & safety of our employees, contractors and visitors.
A Day in the Life:
Basic responsibilities include:
- Delivers GoalZERO HSE performance through strong leadership, employee/contractor involvement and OE management systems
- Provides direct supervision to a diverse group of H&S personnel to include establishing goals, mentoring, accountability, development and on-gong performance management / feedback
- Supports site’s Operational Excellence plan and audits
- Responsibilities also include participating in safety / fire protection engineering reviews of planned facility expansions and other modifications to the site
- Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice
- Develops, implements and supports safety and health policies, procedures and programs
- Develops a basic knowledge of the units and processes to which the regulations and requirements must be applied and be able to identify opportunities for improvement
- Able to effectively manage multiple tasks, but also able to relinquish tasks that can be performed by support staff or less-seasoned professionals
- Interacts with operations and other plant personnel to ensure a consistent understanding of both regulatory and plant requirements
- Adapts to the situation at hand and be able to recommend solutions. Able to identify safety issues, develop an action plan to address issues, execute the plan and evaluate success of the program
- Ability to establish/communicate expectations, monitor performance and hold stakeholders accountable for their actions
- Serves as safety and health resource for field operations, laboratory and maintenance functions during routine and non-routine plant operations. Also serve as safety and health resource for management, internal customers and fellow team members
- Hosts agency inspections and maintains safety, security and health systems and supporting documentation to illustrate compliance with regulations
- Leads, participates in and supports incident investigations as necessary
- Provides support when the Emergency Operations Center is activated
- Serves in a support role for emergency response support which may require the use of SCBA and other appropriate PPE
- Fulfills other related responsibilities as assigned i.e. security, IH.
- Leads the site’s health & safety digitization initiatives & innovations such as; E-permitting, electronic job observations and life critical audits
- Willingness to delegate tasks that can be performed by support staff or less-seasoned personnel
You Bring This Value :
Minimum Qualifications:
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or similarly related degrees
- Position requires a minimum of 8 years of HSE experience in refining or a chemical manufacturing environment.
- Candidate must possess in-depth knowledge of the industrial safety profession and OSHA regulations as well as a working understanding of behavioral safety, industrial hygiene, incident investigation, loss prevention, and case management/worker's compensation.
- Experience representing a company to local community entities and agencies is desired.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Able to communicate across multiple levels within the site and in different group settings.
- Experience leading teams, supervising and directing people
- Must be a self-starter and have the initiative to seek opportunities for improvements within the site.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) strongly preferred.
- Experience in Emergency Response Management and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is a plus.
- Knowledge of industrial facility security programs and compliance is preferred.
- Experience in HSE planning for major turnarounds and outages is desired.
- Knowledge of Human & Organization Performance (HOP) aspects
