Basic Function
The Laboratory Intern supports day-to-day activities at the Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene Joint Venture LyondellBasell plant, located in Westlake, Louisiana. The selected candidate(s) will be part of the laboratory team and will work under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisors, Team Lead, and Laboratory Management. All work will be performed with oversight from a designated site Laboratory Technician.
Anticipated 12-week Internship Dates: May 18, 2026, through August 7, 2026
Roles & Responsibilities
• Maintaining proper and safe use of laboratory equipment
• Supporting routine and non routine sample analyses
• Supporting the documenting, communicating, and archiving of analytical results
• Communicating effectively within the department and with units
• Testing quality control standards to ensure validity of sample results
• Ensuring accurate and timely completion of all required paperwork
• Supporting any troubleshooting and minor maintenance work needed on laboratory instrumentation and equipment
• Supporting the execution of routine calibration as required and maintenance of associated records
• Performing laboratory duties in accordance with local laboratory procedures
• Completing mandated safety and regulatory training (Computer-Based Training)
• Maintaining effective and professional relationships with all coworkers and responding appropriately to their requests
• Following safety rules, participating in a GoalZERO culture
Min. Qualifications
• High School diploma or GED
• 18 years of age or older
• Must have completed at least two semesters in a Chemical Laboratory Technology degree plan from an accredited school
• Chemical Laboratory Technology graduates may apply if degree was received within one year, up to and including Spring graduates from prior year
• Must maintain an overall and semester grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and must provide own transportation to and from work
• Able to work 10-hour shifts
• Able to wear appropriate protective equipment
• Possess the critical competencies for this position: communication, teamwork, problem solving and decision-making, results orientation, initiative, relationship building, and technological orientation
• Basic computer skills are a requirement for this position
• Must successfully pass pre-employment screening process, including fitness-for-duty requirements
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident)
