Basic Function

As a member of our team, the Instrument Reliability Engineer will provide instrumentation and low voltage engineering support to a designated area of responsibility in the Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene Facility in Westlake, Louisiana. This includes leading reliability and plant performance improvements, leading expense and small capital projects, and supporting maintenance efforts to drive improvements in maintenance work processes, procedures, performance, and cost. This position will work closely with Process Engineering, Operations, Turnaround, Capital Projects, and Maintenance personnel in the execution of these duties.

 

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Applies data analysis techniques to develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and other problems that adversely affect plant operations including capacity, quality, cost, and regulatory compliance issues
  • Develops Preventive (PM) and Predictive (PdM) Maintenance Plans and associated maintenance procedures, guidelines or work instructions
  • Supports development of Obsolescence and Long-Range Plans, which includes identification of Bad Actor equipment and development of mitigation plans (i.e. AMS Initiatives, SIS, PLCs, and governor systems, etc.)
  • Develops and forecasts spending plan in the annual maintenance budget
  • Supports Capital Project organization in developing scope, participating in detailed design, factory acceptance tests and site acceptance tests/execution phases of projects
  • Enforces application of corporate, industry, and company standards and procedures
  • Supports site outages and Turnarounds and develops Instrumentation scope    
  • Leads interdisciplinary reliability improvement and/or Path to Excellence (P2E) Teams to guide efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, controls and safety systems
  • Provides technical support to crafts and operations on technical requirements and issues with unit instrument and low voltage electrical systems
  • Creates Management of Change documents and leads evaluations for Instrument Reliability initiatives
  • Maintains awareness of emerging technology, assessing applicability to improve reliability and performance, or to reduce maintenance cost
  • Participates and leads formal and informal incident investigations to properly identify and eliminate the root cause of incidents, complete and close findings
  • Manages risk to the achievement of an organization’s strategic objectives in the areas of environmental, health, safety, asset capability, quality, and production
  • Drives continuous reliability improvements in equipment installations and work processes 


Area of Expertise, Requirements

  • Basic proficiency in the following areas with the ability to develop additional skills in particular areas:
    • Knowledge of industry codes and standards (i.e. IEEE, ISA, IEC, NFPA, NEC)
    •  Instrumentation and measurement technology
    •  Failure analysis
    • Analysers & Gas chromatographs
    • Reliability engineering
    • Reliability data analysis
  • Ability to apply computer software tools (SAP, Microsoft Office,ExSILentia, Conval)
  • Ability to grasp LyondellBasell Operational Excellence GAIS (FLOC, Asset Register, PM’s PdM’s, etc.)
  • General Knowledge of and exposure to SAP

Min. Qualifications

Education and Work Experience 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 0-4 years of Reliability and/or Maintenance Engineering experience in chemical or refinery industry
  • Demonstrated ability to translate reliability improvement techniques into engineer solutions to improve equipment reliability
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct reliability improvement efforts in a continuous process
  • Experience with data analysis, complex problem solving and instrument troubleshooting
  • Experience with Maintenance best practices
  • Experience with Beamex and Meridium software is preferred
  • Experience with control system – DCS ( Delta V ), PLC – Allen Bradley, Triconex, package system, Machine condition & monitoring system – CSI, Bentley Nevada is preferred

  • Strong interpersonal skills; Able to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing within the team as well as with other discipline personnel
