The Environmental Engineer will be responsible for completing and submitting the Toxic Release Inventory report (Sara 313-TRI), the air emission inventory report (ERIC), the Greenhouse Gas report (GHG), and the internal sustainability report. This position will also calculate monthly permitted emissions to ensure all permit limits are being met and will interface with a diverse group of customers including process and project engineering, operations, maintenance, site leadership, and outside regulatory agencies. The Environmental Engineer must demonstrate understanding and ownership for meeting / exceeding health, safety, environmental, and risk management standards and practices.

Roles & Responsibilities

General:

  • Interact with operations and other plant personnel to ensure a consistent understanding of environmental regulatory requirements
  • Provides liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections and for regulatory reporting
  • Interprets and communicates regulatory requirements, effectively identifying solutions when rule ambiguity exists
  • Maintain ownership of site environmental programs, (TRI, ERIC, GHG, permit emission calculations)
  • Submit required reports
  • Demonstrate an overall understanding of the production processes
  • Proactively identify opportunities to make improvements within respective area of responsibility
  • Dedication to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • Prioritize outcomes in all actions, decisions, and behaviors to achieve the organization's vision, purpose, strategic focus, and goals
  • Ability to move a team to consensus on difficult issues and effectively manage uncertainty

Min. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Work Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, relevant sciences, or specific environmental discipline
  • Minimum of three years relevant experience 
  • Working knowledge of environmental air compliance and reporting programs associated with the chemical manufacturing industry
  • Experience in developing and / or managing environmental compliance systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five or more years relevant experience 
  • Experience in the chemical manufacturing industry 
  • Experience with regulatory agency interaction

Languages: English, additional language preferred

Other skills:

  • Proficient in Excel
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to effectively use role specific software and standard company computer systems and programs, such as EPA’s Central Data Exchange (CDX) and LDEQ’s Emissions Reporting and Inventory Center (ERIC)
