Basic Function

This position has the responsibility for providing primary support to maintain and improve the Process Control Systems. This includes working across multi-disciplined teams, managing complex and highly technical DCS/SIS/PLC systems, and driving continuous improvement in an industrial process environment.  

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Conducts daily support and maintenance of process control systems and equipment (which includes Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and other 3rd Party equipment)
•    Responds to process control emergencies after hours as needed
•    Maintains and modifies the Human Machine Interface (HMI), process control configuration, instrument loop settings, historical trends and hardware for a particular unit area
•    Designs, configures, and tests any new additions to the process control systems and supports the Management of Change (MOC) process
•    Coordinates with individuals or support groups within the unit on a day-to-day basis reviewing and/or implementing DCS process control operational modifications, system enhancements, unit improvements, and new process unit installations
•    Creates and distributes reports from the process control systems
•    Analyzes alarm metrics weekly and collaborates with the Operations, Maintenance, and Process groups
•    Monitors the health of the process control systems for system problems, including reviewing system logs, system statuses, and error messages
•    Creates, reviews, and maintains process control documentation, including system diagrams, control narratives, cause & effect diagrams, network diagrams, equipment inventory, software licenses, etc.
•    Coordinates with the Control System vendor regarding system issues and annual maintenance
•    Participates as a critical team member on process control migrations, upgrades, and Turnaround (TAR) projects
•    Troubleshoots control issues to the field instrumentation level

Min. Qualifications

Area of Expertise, Requirements
•    Understanding of Emerson DeltaV DCS and SIS preferred 
•    Understanding of Emerson AMS Device Manager preferred 
•    Understanding of Allen Bradley PLC preferred 

 

Education and Work Experience 
•    Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline (Chemical or Electrical preferred) with a minimum of 6 years of experience in the petrochemical industry
•    Experience supporting industrial process control systems is preferred
