Basic Function

The Automation Engineer has the responsibility for providing primary optimization support (productivity, quality, efficiency, and reliability) to improve the Process Control Systems controlling the operating unit. This includes working across multi-disciplined teams, managing complex and highly technical DCS/APC systems, and driving continuous improvement in an industrial process environment.  

Roles & Responsibilities


General:

  • Manage lifecycle of PLC, SIS, and other 3rd party systems to ensure system reliability
  • Develop Preventive Maintenance (PM) plans and associated maintenance procedures, guidelines, or work instructions
  • Support development of Obsolescence and Long-Range plans, which includes identification of bad-actor equipment and development of mitigation plans (i.e., AMS Initiatives, SIS, PLCs, and governor systems, etc.)
  • Develop and forecast spending plan in the annual Maintenance budget
  • Support capital project organization in developing scope, participating in detailed design, conducting factory-acceptance and site-acceptance tests, and supporting all phases of capital project execution
  • Support programming of PLC, SIS, and other 3rd party systems
  • Enforce application of corporate, industry, and company standards and procedures
  • Provide technical support to crafts, operations, and engineering teams on technical requirements and issues with PLC, SIS, and other 3rd party systems
  • Support the Management of Change (MOC) process
  • Participate as a critical team member on process control migrations, upgrades, and Turnaround (TAR) projects
  • Support cybersecurity implementation and maintenance initiatives

Area of Expertise, Requirements:

  • Understanding of Siemens and Allen Bradley PLC systems preferred
  • Understanding of Emerson DeltaV SIS and Triconex SIS preferred
  • Understanding of Emerson MHM, Prognost, and Bentley Nevada condition monitoring systems preferred

Min. Qualifications

Education and Work Experience: 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering required (Chemical or Electrical preferred) 
  • Minimum of five years engineering experience, with three of those years of experience supporting industrial control systems, required
  • CFSE certification preferred

Languages: English, additional language preferred
