Safety Engineer (m/w/d)

 

Basic Function of the Job:
 

The purpose of the job is to consult for Operations and Engineering on safety-related problems, especially for process-related topics. You will act as the site process owner for Incident Investigation, Energy Isolation and Line Break. This job includes the role of the Incident Investigation Site Coordinator and the membership of the Learning from Experience council.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

 

  • Designated Safety Officer (Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit) according to ASiG
  • Consulting for Operations and Engineering on safety-related problems, especially for process-related topics
  • Site Process Owner for Operational Excellence (OE) -Standards with strong interfaces to Process Safety, Emergency Response and Operations: Energy Isolation, Line Break and Asphyxiation in Enclosed Buildings.
  • Management of the working committee for Energy Isolation and Line Break. Including the improvement and adaption of the established processes as well as the administration of the related HSE‑procedures.
  • Expert for conducting risk assessments in accordance with OE-preferred practice Asphyxiation in Enclosed Buildings including the authoring and responsibility for related technical HSE-statement.
  • Site process ownership for formal incident investigation processes including the role of the Incident Investigation Site Coordinator according to OE-Standard. Including the management, training and knowledge exchange of about approx.15 incident investigators.
  • Assure quality and timeline of incident investigations, by reviewing and coaching
  • Designated incident investigator for various incident scenarios (Occupational Safety, Process Safety, Reliability, etc.) using analytical methods, such as barrier failure analysis (BFA) and TRIPOD
  • Member of the learning from experience council. Including: Review of incidents for learning opportunities and developing drafts for adequate measures
  • Coordinator for communication with the Employer's Liability Insurance Association (Berufsgenossenschaft) following occupational incidents on site
  • Membership in the Site Emergency Management Team

 

Education and Key Requirements

 

  • University degree (B.Eng/Sc) in safety engineering or related relevant discipline
  • Engineering work experience of 3 to 5 years within the chemical industry
  • Training as Safety Officer (Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit gemäß ASiG)
  • Training and certification  in incident investigation method (e. g. TRIPOD or barrier failure analysis BFA)
  • Open and effective communication
  • Strong analytical thinking
  • Ability to improve HSE process and HSE-Tools (e.g. internal Auditor)
  • Familiar with communicating and working within interdisciplinary/companywide team
  • Knowledge of IT Tools Intelex, ePAS, IncidentXP, DNV Phast & Conval (recommended)
  • Knowledge of German and English
