We are looking for a


Project Manager (m/f/d)


With LyondellBasell stepping up its circularity and climate ambitions and actions to address the global challenges of plastic waste and decarbonization, along with strategic growth driven Projects, the portfolio of projects is growing to support these initiatives. The current role is foreseen to support the organization on this journey.

The location can be in Wesseling, Germany or in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.


Responsibilities & Accountabilities


  • Overall project accountability until Mechanical Completion and commissioning and start-up (CSU) along with Operational Readiness and transfer to Plant Operations.  Close out of the Project from a final documentation perspective
  • Employ the company's Project Management Process in execution of capital projects and prepare and implement project execution plans
  • Lead definition of project objectives, scope development, and front-end engineering in support of the project objectives
  • Ensure safe execution of projects employing GoalZERO HSE performance standards
  • Manages the interfaces between project execution functions such as engineering, procurement, construction, QA, project controls well as between third-party contractors, suppliers and the owner’s team. Drive clear and unambiguous scope definition of all client scope requirements
  • Provide strong leadership to multi-discipline and multi-cultural teams, including company and contract personnel, in resolution of technical and commercial issues
  • Provide project leadership on safety, cost and schedule, risk management by insuring good communication and setting expectations for all members of the project team including project Stakeholders.
  • Coordinates and ensure proper governance of project including LyondellBasell’s project gate process
  • Obtain funding for projects
  • Hold the EPCm contractor accountable to deliver on his contractual commitments in a fair and equitable manner
  • Ensure the health of the Project by validating earned progress against plan and expenditure against plan and progress
  • In the event of schedule deficiencies, ensure there is a mitigation plan in place to recover these shortfalls
  • Mange the interface with Operations to ensure the Lyondellbasell is meeting their contractual obligations
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Must display strong personal initiative, a sound planning and problem solving capacity, and effective interpersonal skills




  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or closely related technical degree
  • 15+ years prior experience working in the Chemical, Petrochemical, Refining, or equivalent industry on major capital projects valued over $100MM delivering engineering and construction projects.
  • Working fluency in English and German (written and spoken). Working knowledge of French and/or Dutch is a plus.
  • PE and/or PMP Certification a plus
  • Familiarity with diverse project contracting structures and formations such as EPCm and LSTK
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively handle multiple projects and/or changing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing with internal and external clients in English, Dutch, German
  • Experience anticipating internal and or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues; has recommended process, product or service improvements
  • International project management experience preferred.
