(Assistant) Tax Manager (m/f/d)

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

• Lead and/or assist in the full tax life cycle (tax planning, reporting, compliance and enquiries/discussions with local tax authorities) for operations and activities in Germany and Austria
• Coordinate and prepare technical analyses  in respect of  tax audits, controversy, and potential  litigation and ruling processes, interacting cross-functionally to provide responses and develop strategy
• Participate in and coordinate regional tax planning, restructurings, M&A and other special projects with opportunities to develop through technical research and presentations to Tax leadership and executive management
• Analyze impact of proposed and enacted tax law changes
• Manage the German and Austrian corporate tax return processes in coordination with external providers, and other tax filings that are needed to be compliant with local tax regulations
• Prepare quarterly tax provisions in coordination with the Tax Reporting team   (mainly US GAAP and partly IFRS), accompanying working papers and technical memorandums, and risk assessments of uncertain tax positions
• Assist with  preparation of transfer pricing documentation in liaison with other stakeholders and the Transfer Pricing team
• Collaborate with Indirect Tax team members regarding local implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) and other related tax matters including processes and audits
• Partner with the business and other internal and external stakeholders including tax authorities, communicating directly with German Tax Authority representatives on behalf of the Company
• Lead projects to improve the tax reporting and compliance processes locally and where appropriate, as part of a global team
• Identify opportunities for  process automation, coordinating with cross functional team members for data and analytics

Qualifications

• Certified Tax Advisor (“Steuerberater”)
• Educated to Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or similar, including “Diplom-Finanzwirt”
• German native language, fluent in English (verbal and written)
• Typically 4 to 8 years’ work experience, ideally within in a Big Four, an multinational group in the corporate tax environment or equivalent
• Experience in German corporate income tax, incl. Tax Compliance and tax projects
• Cross-border taxation experience is a plus
• First experience with tax accounting under US GAAP and/or IFRS  is a plus
• Experience with Microsoft Office software products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), working knowledge of SAP is a plus but not a must have
• Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
• Good analytical skills, numerically very strong and experienced in process management
• Collaborates effectively in cross-functional teams
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment which requires prioritization and ability to multi-task
• Highly self-motivated; takes initiative; identifies and addresses issues; works efficiently with attention to detail
• Ability to work within a multinational environment
