Basic Function
The UKHRM partners with senior UK leaders and regional teams, supporting all UK client groups. This role develops and implements the UK HR Strategy, aligning it with the Global HR Strategy and business objectives. Responsible for the entire employment lifecycle for UK employees, the UKHRM collaborates with HR Centres of Excellence (COEs) on core HR workstreams. The role provides HR management advice to enhance human resource effectiveness and business success. The UKHRM oversees HR in the UK, leading a team of four HR professionals and contractor support.
Roles & Responsibilities
Generalist
• Builds a strong UK HR team to partner with client groups and achieve business goals
• Acts as a senior partner and trusted advisor to internal client leadership, ensuring sound management practices and consistent decision-making
• Leads and participates in cross-business, cross-geography, and company-wide HR initiatives (succession planning, talent reviews, change management, learning and development, training, engagement, DEI activities)
• Prepares workforce data and reports as needed
• Ensures well-planned, coordinated, relevant, and timely internal HR communications that align with company values
• Participates fully in Senior Management Teams for UK sites
• Manages and develops HR team members, including goal setting, coaching, and development
• Develops and manages the annual UK HR budget
Employment Law and Labour relations
• Develops and implements UK HR policies, incorporating changes in employment legislation and labour law
• Defines and drives labour relations strategies, including leading annual pay negotiations at Carrington and Crumlin manufacturing sites with recognized Trade Unions
• Manages employee relations issues proactively, mitigating risks through local HR partners
Strategic & Change Management
• Develops and implements UK HR strategy aligned with global HR strategy, business vision, and objectives
• Collaborates with EU HR Directors on key strategic initiatives
• Shapes and drives strategic HR activities in the UK to develop high-value capabilities
• Participates in and occasionally leads special projects
• Leads change management programs, including HR consultation and communication processes
• Partners with leaders on organizational design and structure changes, including process changes, consultation, and communication
Compliance
• Ensures HR initiatives follow Corporate Guidelines and local needs, complying with policies and laws.
• Investigates Code of Conduct and HR policy violations, reporting to Legal and Compliance.
Compensation & Benefits
• Manages UK Pension Schemes and Benefits, including reviews, administration, auto enrolment, and renewals.
• Works with stakeholders to monitor, propose, and implement benefit or pension changes.
• Oversees remuneration strategy with Total Rewards, covering compensation, merit reviews, and workforce planning.
• Manages UK Expatriation programme with UK payroll.
Talent Management and Development
• Leads talent and leadership development, identifying high potential talent, evaluating gaps, and creating development and succession plans.
Qualifications
• HR degree or CIPD membership with relevant experience
• 8+ years HR experience (preferably in chemical, oil, gas, or manufacturing, but not essential)
• Experience in managing and developing HR teams
• Knowledge of UK Union requirements and collective agreements; experience in negotiations with staff representatives
• Change management experience in a results-driven environment
• Experience working across multiple sites in a global matrix organization
• Knowledge of regulations, standards, policies, and legislation (data protection, Equality Act, health and safety, payroll, pensions)
• Strong understanding of HR practices with experience in talent management, organization design, change management, employee relations, recruiting, training, leadership development, and succession planning
