Junior Electrical & Instrument Engineer (NewCo)

The Junior Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer supports the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of Electrical and Instrumentation systems at Carrington. The role focuses on ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operation of plant equipment while assisting Senior Engineers in project execution and technical problem solving and supporting the production plant with day to day issues. 

A Day in the Life

Engineering & Design Support

• Assist in developing and updating E&I Engineering deliverables, including Single line Diagrams, Loop Drawings, Wiring Diagrams and Cable schedules & P&ID’s and Instrument Location Plans.
• Prepare Equipment databases, specifications and material requisitions.
• Support the evaluation and selection of instruments, analysers, control devices and electrical equipment suitable for hazardous areas (ATEX etc.).
• Review vendor drawings and technical documentation under supervision.

Project Execution

• Support E and I Engineering activities for all MOC related plant modifications etc.
• Assist in preparing work packs, method statement and risk assessments as and where necessary.
• Co-ordinate with procurement, project/construction teams and contractors to ensure timely delivery of all project related materials and equipment.
• When required participate in both Factory Acceptance and Site Acceptance Testing to support project delivery.

Installation Testing & Commissioning

• Assist with field installation checks, ensuring compliance with drawings, standards and safety requirements.
• Support loop checks, calibration, functional logic/safeguarding testing and commissioning of instruments, control systems and electrical equipment.
• Document test results and prepare commissioning reports.

Operations & Maintenance Support

• Participate in routine inspections and preventative maintenance of both electrical and instrument systems to ensure compliance/license to operate activities (M6 Inspections). 
• Assist in troubleshooting issues related to: PLC’s, DCS and SCADA systems. Field instrumentation (pressure, flow, temperature, level). Motors, MCC’s VFD’s and Power Distribution Equipment.
• Support root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.

Compliance, Safety & Industry Standards

• Ensure all work complies with relevant industry standards, and company engineering practices.
• Follow all electrical safety procedures on site, including lock out/tag out and hazardous area requirements.
• Where required participate in HAZOP’s, safety reviews and toolbox talks.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate Engineering records, test reports and Project documentation.
• Update asset Registers, instrument databases and maintenance logs.
• Support where required, the preparation of technical reports and presentations.

Collaboration & Continuous Learning

• Work closely with Senior Engineers, Operations, Maintenance and HSE teams.
• Engage in on-going training to develop technical competencies in E&I Engineering.
• Contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives and Reliability enhancement projects.

You Bring This Value

Education:

• Engineering degree
• Chartered Engineer and member of recognised professional institution (preferred)

Work Experience: 

• 5 years or more experience in a similar top tier COMAH environment
• Previous experience in both Electrical & Instrument Engineering an advantage

Licenses & Certifications:

• TUV Functional Safety Engineer (preferred)
• Ex 12 Designers: Design of intrinsically safe electrical equipment installations in explosive atomospheres (preferred)
• ATEX Responsible Person. CompEx 01-06 (preferred)

Languages:

• Fluency in written and oral English essential.

What We Offer

We offer an attractive compensation package, which includes participation in the Company’s discretionary short-term incentive (bonus) programme. Currently, the full-year target bonus for this position is 10% of base salary.
The holiday entitlement is 25 days/annum plus bank holidays.
