Announcement

In June 2025, LYB announced entering into an agreement and exclusive negotiations for the sale of four olefins & polyolefins sites and the associated business in Europe. The sites to be sold are located in Berre (France), Münchsmünster (Germany), Carrington (UK), and Tarragona (Spain). The sites together represent a scaled olefins and polyolefins platform strategically located in proximity to a longstanding customer base and with access and connectivity to key infrastructure. 
Closing of the proposed transaction is currently expected in the first half of 2026. From the start, the new company will be a scaled leader in European Olefins & Polyolefins. Powered by strategically located assets, a diverse product portfolio, and operational excellence, it aims to transform the business, fostering an agile, entrepreneurial culture where fast decision-making and hands-on collaboration drive transformation and growth.

You will be crucial to a successful transition and, when the sale is closed, success of the new company. You will become part of a new dynamic organization with around 1,800 employees, headquarters in Rotterdam and production sites in France, Germany, UK and Spain with a strong focus on customer excellence.

This is the role

As Country Controller for Spain you will be responsible for the financial governance of the Spanish legal entity, including local statutory accounting, IFRS reporting, internal controls, tax coordination, regulatory compliance, and audit management. This role acts as the local finance lead and primary point of contact for Spanish authorities, auditors, and internal stakeholders.
You will be based at the Tarragona production site and serve as the key finance representative for the Spanish entity.

 

Key Responsibilities
1. Statutory Accounting & Local GAAP Compliance
•    Ensure accurate and timely preparation of statutory financial statements under Spanish GAAP.
•    Coordinate annual accounts, legalization of books, and filings with the Registro Mercantil.
•    Maintain complete and compliant statutory books and documentation for the legal entity.
•    Oversee local adjustments required for statutory reporting.
2. IFRS Reporting & Consolidation Support
•    Manage monthly,  and annual close activities for the Spanish legal entity.
•    Ensure accurate IFRS reporting into the consolidated group (Rotterdam).Maintain a clear legal entity view of performance and ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions.
•    Prepare and review the annual IFRS reporting package.
3. Audit Management
•    Act as the primary contact for external auditors.
•    Coordinate statutory audits and ensure timely completion.
•    Support internal audit reviews and implement remediation actions.
4. Tax Coordination & Regulatory Compliance
•    Oversee local tax compliance in coordination with Group Tax and external advisors, including:
•    Corporate Income Tax (IS)
•    VAT and SII (Immediate Supply of Information)
•    Withholding taxes (IRNR)
•    IAE and other local obligations
•    Ensure compliance with Spanish regulatory, industrial, and environmental reporting requirements relevant to the chemical sector.
•    Support transfer pricing documentation and intercompany processes.
5. Internal Controls, Risk & Compliance
•    Own the internal control framework for the Spanish entity.
•    Ensure segregation of duties and control compliance within SAP.
•    Lead local risk assessments and support ethics & compliance initiatives.
•    Implement and monitor corrective actions from audits or control reviews.
6. Treasury, Cash & Legal Entity Stewardship
•    Oversee local bank account administration and payment controls.
•    Ensure proper execution of treasury policies and intercompany settlements.
•    Monitor working capital from a compliance and governance perspective.
•    Support capital structure actions, distributions, and legal entity governance activities (board meetings, resolutions, powers of attorney).
7. Shared Services Oversight
•    Act as the “ultimate customer” for services delivered by the Shared Service Center in Bulgaria.
•    Monitor SLA performance, ensure compliance with Spanish requirements, and escalate issues when needed.
•    Provide local guidance to SSC teams on Spanish GAAP, VAT, and regulatory specifics.
8. Stakeholder Engagement
•    Serve as the finance representative for the Spanish site and legal entity.
•    Present legal entity performance and statutory matters to local directors, works councils, site management, and executive leadership.
•    Provide financial guidance to non finance stakeholders as needed.

This is what you bring

•    University degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA preferred;
•    Professional Accountancy Qualification (RA/CPA/Chartered Accountant) required;
•    7+ years of experience in finance/accounting within complex or multinational environments;
•    Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and Spanish GAAP;
•    Proven experience preparing statutory accounts in Spain;
•    Experience with audits, internal controls, and legal entity governance;
•    Strong proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint);
•    Extensive experience with SAP R/3;
•    OneStream knowledge is a plus;
•    Fluent Spanish and English, both written and spoken.
