Sr. Accountant

Basic Function

This position will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) with the main purpose to lead the General Accounting for trading activities. Key responsibilities include, but not limited to, ensuring accurate, complete and timely transactional processing with consistent application of global accounting procedures (in line with accounting policy). Transactional responsibilities include creating and maintaining accruals and prepayments, allocations, miscellaneous manual journal entries, preparing and reviewing account reconciliations and performing flux analyses for assigned accounts, all in line with US GAAP, IFRS and statutory provisions; with main focus on supporting the trading business as assigned in Asia/AfMEI region.

This position will also support Inventory Accounting activities for the Asia trading organizations with a dotted reporting line to the Inventory Accounting Regional Process Lead, Asia & AfMEI.  Key responsibilities include, but not limited to, ensuring accurate complete and timely transactional processing with consistent application of global accounting procedures (in line with policy) and the sign off of appropriate accounting transactions. Transactional responsibilities include USGAAP, IFRS and local GAAP inventory accounting; FIFO inventory valuation, product costing, and inventory adjustments. This role is also responsible for accounting support and problem solving for inventory functional areas.

Roles & Responsibilities

General Accounting
1.    Ensure efficient and effective delivery of operational responsibilities in accordance with corporate policies and compliance requirements for General Accounting and in line with internal customer expectations.
2.    Review GL and TB noting irregular and/ or material entries prior to SAP closing 
3.    Review and approve Manual Journal Entries during the period
4.    Review revenue, cost of sales and margins reports noting if in line with sales volume, selling/ transfer prices and commissions 
5.    Analyze cash fixed costs to ensure expenses are consistently recorded. Material fluctuations per line item (vs prior period) are being followed up for clarification 
6.    Review the validity and reasonableness of the accruals to capture all operating expenses and capital expenditures incurred in the period
7.    Review long ageing items in the financials to identify the validity of the transactions
8.    Review asset and liabilities balances list to ensure all assets and liabilities being accounted for; perform fast calculation on depreciation and compare the book during the period 
9.    Provide support to the General Accounting Regional Process Lead, Asia & AfMEI for tracking implemented performance indicators and metrics and explaining trends in performance.
10.    Deliver standardized tasks, activities and sub-processes alignment across the team to the expectations of the General Accounting Regional Process Lead, Asia & AfMEI . Work together with other regional teams or departments to deliver assigned tasks.
11.    Continue to seek and provide suggestions for process improvement initiatives. Support and implement process improvement initiatives approved by process owner.
12.    Perform SOX controls and maintain evidence of control for area of responsibility.
13.    Implement and maintain desktop procedures for area of responsibility
14.    Maintain good working relationship with key stakeholders / customers of the manufacturing activities
15.    Coordinate on month end closing activities and ensure posting is done in the correct period.
16.    Provide necessary support on internal and external audit.
17.    Perform ad-hoc tasks and support special projects as required

Roles & Responsibilities

Inventory Accounting
1.    Deliver to the expectations of the Inventory Accounting Regional Process Lead, Asia & AFMEI in managing the respective processes ensuring tasks, activities and sub-processes are standardized and, aligned across the team.
2.    Transactional responsibilities include USGAAP, IFRS and local GAAP inventory accounting, FIFO inventory valuation, product costing, and inventory adjustments
3.    Responsible for accounting support and problem solving for inventory functional areas
4.    Support and implement agreed process improvement initiatives within the inventory accounting process team.
5.    Implement and track process performance indicators and metrics and explain trends in performance and against benchmarks.
6.    Deliver efficient and effective Inventory accounting services in line with corporate policies and legislative requirements.
7.    Perform SOX controls and maintain evidence of control for area of responsibility.
8.    Support physical inventory stock count led by MC&A, perform related account reconciliation, and the subsequent tasks including but not limited to accounting records adjustments
9.    Perform other ad hoc tasks as assigned

 

Support compliance with Direct and Indirect Taxes 
1.    Co-ordinate preparation & submission of CIT returns to authorities
2.    Ensure upload of CIT workings and filings for regional tax team review.
3.    Submit Corporate tax submission on team share after review of calculation, including, but not limit to, UTP and QSTM
4.    Ensure payment of all taxes within the due date 
5.    Prepare and co-ordinate with consultant/ tax office for all information/ documents required during assessment with accurate and timely submission 
6.    Preparation for annual Transfer Pricing Analysis

Min. Qualifications

Education:
•    Bachelor’s degree or above in Accounting, Finance or related discipline

Work Experience: 
•    8+ years of General Accounting and month-end closing experience gained from trading environment

Licenses & Certifications:
•    Professional qualifications: not essential

Skills:
•    Be familiar with SAP system or other large ERP will be an advantage
•    Strong computer skills and proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
•    Strong analytical skills
•    Able to multi task and meet aggressive deadlines
•    Passion for driving continuous improvements
•    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential given diverse nature of operating landscape and cultural sensitivities
 
Languages:  Good spoken, written English. Speak and understand another language(Chinese) will be an advantage
