Basic Function
Lead the polymers (polyethylene and polypropylene) application development and technical service group for the South East Asia and others region. This role ensures technical resources and activities are aligned to deliver regional and supply source specific business objectives. This role also ensures all aspects of our LyondellBasell, and supply source, product safety and stewardship programs are in place and effectively sustained including Product Risk Management Plans or PRMPs.
Roles & Responsibilities
Activities of the group include product development, application development, the identification of opportunities, visiting customers for product conversion trails or trouble-shooting, handling customer complaints and closure, handling application requests and rigorously managing the necessary product stewardship for highly regulated products, i.e. medical or pipe.
The ADTS team currently supports ~ 1 million tons of polymer sales each year across the region. Products range from commodity to highly specialized and highly regulated. The region anticipates significant sales volume growth in the years ahead including new products and applications stemming from our own global plants and in the Asian joint ventures.
Education and Work Experience
Education:
University or College Degree in Chemical Engineering , Polymer Science, Physics, or Chemistry
Work Experience:
- Industrial experience in a technical setting preferably the polymers industry, years of actual industrial experience depends on job grade.
- Broad knowledge of polypropylene or polyethylene properties and performance relationships for major applications or conversion / processing equipment. An understanding of how process and catalyst technology influences these relationships is preferred
- Ability to translate a business strategy into specific action plans, and track performance, for a medium sized and decentralized team in the region
- Clear and concise reporting and presentation skills, ability to influence, motivate and inspire others
- Minimum of 15 years’ experience in a technical or supervisory role
Languages
English: Proficiency in English is essential for this role, as it is the primary language of communication within the team and with external stakeholders.
Additional Languages: Fluency in other languages such as Mandarin or Japanese is considered a strong asset, especially for roles involving regional collaboration or customer engagement in those markets.
Functional Competencies
- Application and Process Knowledge: Able to comprehend and appreciate significance of knowledges of major plastics application and processing technology, e.g. Pipe / Specialty Sheets / Profile, Flexible packaging (BOPP, CPP, Blown film etc), or Rigid Packaging (injection , blow molding, thermoforming), Medical and Healthcare Packaging, Wire & Cable, Foam etc. Have readily developed at least one expertise among the applications. Able to lead projects with measures of application performance, test methods of related industries and countries, and conversion processes from material to end use.
- PP or PE Product Knowledge: Able to comprehend and communicate the performances of LYB or supply source products under the abovesaid process and applications situations, the benefits in use versus competitors of difference technologies and processes.
- Safety and Product Stewardship: Awareness and attitude in related Product Safety, Food contact approvals. Able to understand Product Risk Management and awareness in daily activities, such as product development (Global Polymers Innovation Process), complaint handling, and customer communications.
- Project Management - Support execution of project management plan for achieving objectives of the organization – in particular, technical approvals and commercialization of grades and applications at customers.
- Negotiating – Able to negotiate in technical evaluations in tough situations. Have the attitude in settling differences. Have capabilities in reaching consensus without damaging relationships. Has a good sense of timing and prioritization
- Presentation and Communication Skills - Able to summarize technical situations in a simple way, communicating the key messages and engages the audience. Communicates openly and clear. Simplifies complex issues where possible and share information freely.
