This is the role

The Non-US Tax Manager for our Global Tax Reporting group will lead a team that is responsible for the Global IFRS tax reporting process and key components of the US GAAP tax reporting process including collaboration with the global tax reporting team in Houston, and local country tax and accounting teams.  This position will also have opportunities to lead tax reporting initiatives in process improvements and standardization. This role reports into the Senior Manager of Global Tax Reporting located in Houston, TX and is currently based in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
 

The Worldwide Tax group at LyondellBasell is a collection of over 70 dynamic individuals located in multiple countries that work diligently to comply with our Company’s regulatory requirements and enhance shareholder value. Globally, we consist of U.S. federal, state, and non-U.S. compliance, global tax accounting for both U.S. GAAP and IFRS tax reporting processes, and global tax planning teams. We are also heavily focused on enhancements and process efficiencies through tax technology and have a group of Tax Excellence professionals. Our group operates on a hybrid work schedule with the ability to work remotely 3 days per week. We have a Core Collaboration day across Finance on Wednesdays.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the Tax Reporting team in Rotterdam including managing workloads and priorities, in addition to training and development including annual goals, longer-term development plans, and providing performance feedback;
  • Responsible for the quarterly and year-end tax provision processes and workpapers for our countries outside of the US related to US GAAP under ASC 740 including, but not limited to: 
    • Review and variance analysis of US GAAP consolidated reports for management with respect to tax positions of the Non-US including, but not limited to:
      • monthly cash tax analysis;
      • required footnotes and disclosures; 
      • current and deferred tax calculation; 
      • effective tax rate analysis;
      • FX exposure;
      • FIN 48 calculation and workpapers;
      • APB 23 analysis;
      • valuation allowance analysis;
    • Liaise with country/regional tax managers about their input for the quarterly provision process, including meeting the global workplan timeline;
    • Responsible for the review of the Non-US tax balances including income tax payable analysis, deferred tax balance roll forwards, and tax effects in OCI/equity;
    • Responsible for the management and review the return to accruals and tax basis balance sheet computations for the Non-US region. This will include, but not limited to coordinating with country/region tax managers on the filing of returns and ensuring the return to accruals are finalized timely and accurately;
  • Responsible for the management and review of the global quarterly and year-end tax provision processes and workpapers related to IFRS under IAS 12, including, but not limited to: 
    • Required footnotes and disclosures;
    • Worldwide current and deferred tax calculation;
    • Effective tax rate analysis;
    • FIN 48 calculation and workpapers;
    • valuation allowance analysis;
  • Responsible for maintaining SOX controls and ensuring proper documentation;
  • Research advanced tax accounting issues and assist in drafting clear and concise technical memorandum;
  • Responsible for setting up and maintaining tax accounting policies and training for the tax accounting team and local country tax teams;
  • Lead other several projects including but not limited to improving tax accounting processes, forecasting of the ETR/CTR, Country by Country Reporting, etc.;
  • Responsible for maintaining/creating key relationships with others within and outside the tax department in order to ensure expectations and deadlines are met for our stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to identify process improvement opportunities;
  • Highly accountable with proven ability to work independently and through team members, think critically and solve problems, and make decisions exercising sound business acumen;
  • Ability to work cohesively as a cross-functional team member;
  • Strong management skills in coaching direct reports and other team members;
  • Experience working on a global consolidated tax provision for a multi-national company;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel.

This is what you bring

  • Typically 8 years of relevant and accretive work experience with a public accounting firm and/or corporate tax department;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required;
  • Solid understanding of tax accounting concepts and tax technical and research skills;
  • Solid understanding of income tax principles as well as standard corporate book/tax differences under US GAAP, IFRS and various local statutory accounting principles;

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA (or International Equivalent) or Master’s degree is not required but preferred;
  • OneSource Tax Provision experience preferred;
  • Proficient with accounting systems, SAP/OneStream experience is a plus;
  • Alteryx and/or Power BI experience is an advantage.
