This role reports into the Senior Manager, Global Tax Reporting located in Houston, TX and is currently based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. This is primarily an individual contributor role, but there will also be the opportunity to assist in coaching and developing staff members and lead various special projects.
A Day in the Life
The Tax Manager EMEA will be part of our Global Tax Compliance and Reporting group and will be responsible for key components of the US GAAP and IFRS tax reporting process associated with the EMEA region including interim and year-end tax reporting. The Tax Manager EMEA is responsible for coordinating with the third-party compliance provider and other internal resources to ensure the tax compliance obligations of the company, primarily in the EMEA region, including Pillar II calculations and corporate income tax filings are filed timely. This position will have a key role in coordinating Tax Reporting and Tax Compliance deliverables with the Global Tax Compliance and Reporting team in Houston and the local country tax and finance teams including opportunities to lead tax initiatives in process improvements and standardization.
- Responsible for direct tax compliance requirements primarily in Europe and other jurisdictions including, but not limited to:
- Management of third-party outsourced provider;
- Coordination with local country tax management and accounting teams;
- Management of data preparation team members in the Tax Data team;
- Analytical review of direct tax returns in various jurisdictions;
- Review of Pillar II filing requirements including GIR and local country QDMTTs;
- Monitoring all direct tax compliance filing requirements.
- Responsible for the quarterly and year-end tax provision processes and workpapers for our European and other jurisdictions outside of the US related to US GAAP under ASC 740 and IFRS under IAS 12 including, but not limited to:
- Review and variance analysis of US GAAP consolidated reports with respect to tax positions including:
- Monthly cash tax analysis;
- Required footnotes and disclosures;
- Current and deferred tax calculation;
- Effective tax rate analysis;
- FX exposure;
- FIN 48 calculation and workpapers;
- APB 23 analysis;
- Valuation allowance analysis.
- Collaborate with country tax teams for the quarterly provision process;
- Review of the tax balances including income tax payable analysis, deferred tax balance rollforwards, and tax effects in OCI/equity;
- Responsible for the management and review of the return to accruals and tax basis balance sheet computations.
- Review and variance analysis of US GAAP consolidated reports with respect to tax positions including:
- Maintain SOX controls and ensure proper documentation;
- Research advanced tax and tax accounting issues and assist in drafting clear and concise technical memorandum;
- Maintenance of tax accounting and compliance policies and training with development of new policies as required;
- Identifying and driving process optimization for Tax Compliance and Tax Reporting;
- Other special projects as necessary including but not limited to forecasting of the ETR/CTR, Country by Country Reporting, etc;
- Assist in mentoring, training, and developing staff in the areas of technical tax accounting and professional development;
- Maintain and create key partnerships with others within and outside the tax department in order to ensure expectations and deadlines are met.
You Bring This Value
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required;
- Professional qualification in tax or accounting, such as ACA, ACCA, CTA not required but preferred;
- Typically 8 years of relevant and accretive work experience with a public accounting firm and/or corporate tax department;
- Demonstrated understanding of tax accounting concepts and tax technical and research skills;
- Demonstrated understanding of income tax principles as well as standard corporate book/tax differences under US GAAP, IFRS and various local statutory accounting principles;
- Experience working on a global consolidated tax provision for a multi-national company;
- Experience managing European tax compliance for a multi-national company;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
