Basic Function

This position is responsible for the global trade and transportation compliance teams. This role ensures compliance to global trade and transportation compliance regulations.  They work collaboratively to design a compliance strategy that the efficient flow of materials around the world.  

The incumbent is expected to build and maintain strong relationships with different external and internal, direct and indirect stakeholders.  They are also expected to be active in regional and global industry organization so that we proactively manage the compliance risks and standards.

Roles & Responsibilities

•    Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with global trade regulations, including export/import controls, customs regulations, and hazardous materials transportation laws.
•    Customs Management: Oversee customs clearance processes, ensuring accurate documentation and timely clearance of goods.
•    Export/Import Licensing: Manage the application and maintenance of export and import licenses, ensuring all activities comply with regulatory requirements.
•    Trade Documentation: Ensure the accuracy and completeness of all trade-related documents, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, and certificates of origin.
•    Transportation Compliance: Ensure that all transportation activities comply with international and domestic regulations, particularly for hazardous materials.
•    Trade Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to global trade and transportation, such as sanctions, embargoes, and supply chain disruptions.
•    Tariff and Duty Optimization: Analyze and optimize the company’s tariff and duty payments, leveraging free trade agreements (FTAs) and other trade benefits.
•    Internal Audits and Assessments: Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with trade and transportation regulations, and address any identified issues.
•    Training and Development: Develop and deliver training programs on global trade and transportation compliance for employees across the organization.
•    Vendor and Carrier Management: Work with logistics providers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers to ensure they comply with applicable regulations.
•    Trade Policy Monitoring: Stay updated on changes in trade policies, regulations, and international agreements, and adjust company policies accordingly.
•    Reporting and Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate records of all trade and transportation activities and prepare reports for regulatory authorities as required.
•    Collaboration with Legal and Compliance Teams: Work closely with legal and compliance teams to interpret regulations and ensure that the company’s activities align with legal requirements.
•    Incident Management: Respond to and manage incidents related to non-compliance, including investigations, corrective actions, and communication with authorities.
•    Sustainability and Ethics in Trade: Promote ethical and sustainable practices in global trade and transportation, ensuring that the company’s activities support corporate social responsibility goals.

Person Specification

Education: 

•    At minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in Supply Chain, Business Management or Finance required. 
•    Master’s Degree or MBA in relevant field preferred  
 
Work Experience:  

•    10 years of experience in positions with increasing responsibility in supply chain, purchasing, materials management, or similar customer facing role, of which at least 5 years in supervisory role  
•    Extensive knowledge of global trade regulations, including export controls, customs regulations, and transportation laws specific to the chemical industry.
•    Hands-on experience with customs processes, trade documentation, and import/export licensing in a global context.
•    Familiarity with the transportation and handling of hazardous materials, including knowledge of relevant safety regulations.
•    Proven experience in identifying and mitigating risks associated with global trade, such as sanctions, tariffs, and supply chain disruptions.
 
Languages: 

•    Fluency in English required.  

•    Working knowledge of one or more other European languages preferred
