This is the role

A clean and affordable fuel for road transport is important to all of us. There are many solutions to that problem of which one is Battery Electric Vehicles. However that transition takes time and many parts of the world don’t have a stable power supply and/or the money to go down that path. So the internal combustion engine (including hybrid cars) will remain an important part of the global passenger car fleet while at the same time many of these countries are battling bad air quality today. Our fuel blending products have a proven track record around the world in increasing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions, cleaning up the air immediately at low cost and with existing infrastructure. And that story needs to continue being told globally.

As a Manager Technical Support and Business development you will promote and drive Company’s Oxygenated Fuels interests with governments, politicians, ministries, institutions and industrial and technical associations, at both EU level and wider regions (i.e. Asia, Africa, Australia) and participate in Fuel Quality legislation setting in these parts of the world with the help of local consultants and/or one of the regional trade associations. It is expected that over time the emphasis will be on the technical support outside Europe and less so on legislative support within the EU.

You will report into the Global Business Development lead for TBA, the key raw material to produce fuel ethers, based in Houston. You are part of a the global Business Team for Fuel Ethers maintaining and creating demand of the future for these products, for which we have 6 plants between the US and Europe. The global VP for that business resides in Rotterdam including part of the commercial team, with also teams in Houston and Singapore. You will have a counterpart in Houston who takes care of the Americas region and also reports to the Global Business Development lead.
You will work closely with three trade associations on behalf of the fuel ethers industry, where you will function as Technical Fuel expert. These associations are based in Singapore, Brussels and Houston.

This role will require travelling in Europe, MEAF and Asia at times.

You will remain current on latest global regulatory trends and requirements impacting Ethers and work closely with LYB Government Relations and Public affairs in managing external consultants as needed. The person in the role is expected to become a recognized and trusted technical expert in fuels by industry, NGO’s, members of parliament, civil servants, national administrations, ministers and politicians as LYB’s primary representative in the Fuels market. You are part of a multi-functional and international team within LYB and work with technical peers in the industry.

•    Demonstrate proven track record working with legislators around the world to set standards and influence legislation;
•    Presentation effectively, with content and messaging modified to fit the audience – whether business, political or external situations;
•    Express cultural sensitivity, and situational and self-awareness;
•    Assess political and economic situations with a global context and understanding based on their knowledge and experience;
•    Develop and implement a technical strategy to influence decision making;
•    Drive results, ability to function and set priorities independently but in support of overall team goals;
•    Possess knowledge and understanding of technical issues concerning motor vehicles and air pollution;
•    Work closely together with different LYB technical experts on oxygenates around the world.

This is what you bring

•    Degreed technical fuel professional; Min technical Bachelor’s degree. 
•    A minimum of 10-15 years’ experience in major multinational petroleum organizations;
•    Commercial experience in either sales or marketing or similar role is preferred, but not required;
•    Fluent in English is a must and any other language is a plus;
•    High energy: A passionate self-starter who wants to make a (climate) difference based on science and facts.
