Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding finance role in a global chemical leader? Join our BeNeLux team as a Lead Accountant, where you will oversee the accounting and financial reporting for our European entities, with a focus on Belgium region. You will collaborate with various departments across the finance organization, ensuring compliance with US GAAP, IFRS, local GAAP and Sox. You will also lead and support key initiatives such as statutory audits, board meetings, and projects.

This is the role

Welcome to a key finance role in our BeNeLux team, where you'll be overseeing accounting and financial reporting for our European entities with a focus on Belgium region.

The purpose of this job is to ensure that the legal entity view is maintained and financials are compliance with US GAAP, IFRS, local GAAP and Sox. 

But here's the twist – this job isn't a solo act. You'll be working closely with various departments across the finance organization, such as GL team, Direct and Indirect tax squads, O2C, P2P, supply chain, HR payroll, and Legal.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Spearhead the monthly-close accounting activities for assigned legal entities, navigating the complexities of US GAAP, IFRS, and Belgium GAAP. Collaborate with the Poznan shared service center, and tap into the synergy of Group centralized services in Houston and Rotterdam as needed;
  • Craft and maintain a panoramic legal entity view for the entities under your watch, ensuring understanding of their financial landscape;
  • Take charge of crafting Statutory financial statements for your assigned legal entities. Ensure not only financial brilliance but also uphold compliance with local statutory obligations, including the timely delivery of periodic Statistics reporting;
  • Support both statutory and group audits of your assigned legal entities, ensuring a seamless process;
  • Support internal and external auditors, and champion the maintenance and execution of SOX controls;
  • Dive into financial intricacies by performing periodic balance sheet account reconciliations and flux analysis for the legal entities and accounts under your purview;
  • Step into a leadership role by conducting Board and other pivotal meetings for your assigned legal entities, showcasing your strategic financial prowess;
  • Prepare/present (if applicable) the financial narrative to the Belgium Works Council, being the voice of finance and ensuring transparency in Works Council meetings;
  • Be the reliable partner for functional process-teams, ensuring that accounting records are not just accurate, but also delivered with the precision of timing and completeness;
  • Embrace flexibility and extend support beyond the routine by assisting RTR leadership with ad-hoc requests and contributing to broader initiatives across Record to Report. And if the occasion arises, take charge of providing support for the ‘Circularity Project,’ ensuring that acquisitions align with US GAAP, IFRS, and Belgium GAAP standards.

This is what you bring

University degree in Finance/Accounting or Economics (or equivalent)

English (Required)
Dutch (Required)

Work Experience: 
Minimum 5 years’ experience in complex finance & accounting organizations.
US GAAP/ IFRS (Required), Dutch GAAP (Preferred), Belgium GAAP (Preferred) 


  • Advanced knowledge of SAP;
  • Knowledge of One Stream and management reporting systems (Preferred);
  • Knowledge of Thomson Reuters Statutory Reporting software (Preferred);
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint;
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills;
  • Analytical skills;
  • Well organized, able to prioritize;
  • Stakeholder Management
