HSE Lead

As a member of the dynamic Global Projects (GP) HSE team, you will report to the GP HSE Manager, (who is US based) and you have 4/5 (contractors) direct reports. The office location for this project will be either Rotterdam (NL) or Wesseling (GE) and routine travel across Europe is expected for approximately 30% of your time.

A Day in the Life

You provide expertise and have in-depth knowledge in the areas of HSES leadership, occupational and process safety, health, and environmental in a project and construction environment. Responsibilities involve developing, implementing and managing project HSE Management Plans and project HSE performance. Other responsibilities include managing a range of technical programs, including Human & Organizational Performance (H&OP) and be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for HSE.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

• Ensure that construction activities on projects are executed safely and meet LyondellBasell’s requirements;
• Develop, finalize, implement and manage the project specific construction HSE Plan for GP projects across Europe;
• Provide direct oversight of multiple 3rd party / seconded project HSE contractors, who are assigned to EU projects;
• Develop and monitor contractor safety performance metrics;
• Provide technical support to achieve compliance with standards, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Where necessary, develop and implement new and existing programs designed to promote improved HSE performance;
• Prepare and deliver quarterly, monthly and other project HSE reports and presentations;
• Develop material and participate in leadership discussions during safety and project update meetings;
• Participate in and lead HSE audits, assessments, listening tours, etc., and implement corrective actions, as necessary;
• Assist with the management of project related HSE communications;
• Be visible in the field as the project HSE representative and liaison between GP HSE & manufacturing site HSE organizations;
• Participate in or take lead role in incident investigations, action plans and prevention programs in area(s) of responsibility;
• Identify need, develop, execute, coordinate and critique safety training;
• Support other functions in the work team as needed;
• Demonstrate a proactive and responsible attitude for personal safety and the safety of co-workers and contractors;
• Collaborate with other team members for proactive advancement of GP HSE systems and processes;
• Other responsibilities as directed by management.

You Bring This Value

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, or an HSE related discipline;
• Minimum of 10 years work experience and knowledge related to capital projects, construction, turnarounds &/or chemical manufacturing;
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in an HSE role in the construction industry, projects, turnarounds or chemical manufacturing;
• General knowledge of select European regulatory agency HSE standards and specific knowledge of project/construction industry safety standards;
• Relevant HSE experience, such as leading/managing field personnel, supporting construction activities, engaging with project/turnaround leadership, leading incident investigations, etc., in industrial construction, capital projects &/or turnarounds;
• Must be able to speak, read and write fluently in English.

The role requires the physical ability to move throughout manufacturing facilities, including climbing, walking, bending, and standing for extended periods.
