This is the role

Many countries, in Europe, Americas and Asia are implementing or have already implemented a range of environmental levies aimed at supporting the realization of sustainability programs. Examples include EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) schemes, already in place in countries such as Spain, France and the Netherlands, PPT (Plastic Packaging Tax) regimes, active in the UK and Spain, and various forms of Carbon Taxes, including the so-called EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). 

 

As Global Program Lead Environmental Levies you will play a crucial role in driving the implementation of activities necessary for LYB to meet compliance and reporting obligations across various countries. This highly visible and impactful role requires engaging multiple stakeholders cross-functionally and leading dedicated project teams. The Program Lead will oversee the delivery of individual program initiatives and projects, focusing on designing and implementing processes, system and tools upgrades, and identifying resource requirements. Ensuring stakeholder alignment across multiple functions and reporting progress and issue resolutions to the SteerCo are key responsibilities. This role, within the Global SC organization, reports to the Director Global Master Data, Trade Compliance and Business Processes (BPSS).

 

Responsibilities 

  • Lead, cross-functionally, the effort to comply with the Environment Levies schemes in the applicable jurisdictions, establishing and managing the portfolio of projects needed to advance the overall compliance program
  • Define internal resource requirements, for both the overall program management and individual project initiatives; work with LYB functional leaders to staff individual initiative project teams and communicate responsibilities
  • Recommend hiring external 3rd party support as needed where internal resources and knowledge gaps exist, hindering the implementation of the required compliance activities
  • Organize status meetings and communicate frequent status updates to leadership including milestone tracking, issue escalation / and or resolution plans, and overall progress
  • Manage SteerCo schedule, communication, meeting content and action items
  • Coordinate LYB subject matter expert engagement as needed to ensure appropriate solutioning of initiatives

  • Leadership experience at a Sr. Manager level in a large, complex global organization with responsibilities for people, process, resources and results
  • Expertise in business processes, procurement, operations, or enterprise change management initiatives, with the ability to establish strong cross organizational credibility 
  • 20+ years in business with management or leadership experience in an international environment
  • Strong leadership, influencing and communication skills plus the ability to manage multiple diverse perspectives and drive stakeholder alignment 
  • Strong transformational mindset: Ability to drive progress against transformation initiatives in productive approach by balancing established business/functional needs with needed end to end process, technology and operating model changes
  • Experience in coordinating / collaborating with 3rd party partner to deliver effective, leading practice/industry solutions while balancing against specific LYB business needs 
  • Strong operational / tactical leadership skills with maturing strategic leadership
  • Proven excellence in project management skills as well as understanding how to implement solutions
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to influence people at all levels of the organization and build strong partnerships with other leaders
  • Ability to lead others, problem solve, and work autonomously to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Self-starter, comfortable dealing with ambiguity and displaying an innovative and change readiness spirit
  • Strong work ethic, resilient and ability to adjust approach to achieve desired outcome
