This is the role

Reporting to Daryl Schofield, SVP Global Feedstocks and Energy, as the Power Director Europe you will be charged with implementing the energy strategy to balance day to day system needs, mitigate price risk and create long term value through direct participation in the energy markets across the LYB portfolio in Europe.

You will work with the European business and, in particular the Net Zero team, to build a portfolio of third party relationships to support the ongoing implementation of the energy strategy, including meeting LYB renewable power targets.

In addition, it is envisaged that you will assume line management responsibility for the existing electricity category manager, develop the capability of the team to trade electricity, optimize operational consumption, and originate new commercial power agreements aligned with the Net Zero and regional business teams.

You will collaborate with the US Power team to share best practice, align approaches to global strategic partners, and develop common language, processes and approaches with LYB regional businesses and functions.

The role is anticipated to be primarily based in LYB’s regional European headquarters in Rotterdam but will allow for flexible working from other LYB offices. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development and implementation of the energy strategy across the LYB European portfolio, partnering with the operating businesses to develop and build engagement.  
  • Lead and support the origination, structuring and execution of opportunities across a range of  European markets in support of the LYB energy and decarbonization strategies. 
  • Work with local European business units to identify and secure development partners to grow and deliver a pipeline of renewable generation projects/investment opportunities at country and regional level. 
  • Identify and mitigate systemic risks, working with the business to support the development project/investment opportunities. 
  • Lead and coordinate key functions and third-party advisors across finance, legal and technical, procurement, contracting, permitting and interconnection as relates to execution of the European energy strategy. 
  • Provision of analysis and advice to senior management, including on ad hoc basis as relates to European energy activities. 
  • Oversight and leadership of the European energy supply team, providing expertise, advice and leadership around power supply strategy, optimization and hedging, carbon credits position management and trading support to carbon reduction projects including sequestration and ultimately Hydrogen.

This is what you bring

  • 15+ years’ experience and track record of success in European and international renewable energy infrastructure development / investment. 
  • Min. Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Business Administration or related field
    • MBA or Master’s degree in Science or Engineering is preferred
  • Deep energy sector expertise, with knowledge and understanding of international energy markets, policies, and regulations, including negotiation and structuring of PPAs, VPPAs, tariffs and incentives. 
  • Demonstrable experience across multiple renewable technologies including battery storage, power systems and grid infrastructure, and, ideally, power trading or energy procurement.
  • Exceptional commercial and analytical skill set  
  • Experienced in building the case for project investment at various stages of development. Understanding of how to gather and utilize data and provide insights and analytics to drive robust commercial strategy, planning and decision making. 
  • First class stakeholder management and a strong partnering mindset.  Proven track record for cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, accustomed to interacting with and presenting to top management / board. Able to ‘lead through influence’ with the Executive Leadership Team. 
  • Able to lead from the front, articulate the vision, make proposals, and drive engagement across the business, galvanizing the organization to deliver the plan. 
  • Strong ethical and compliance mindset
  • Fluent English is a must. Additional European language skills preferred.
