Announcement

In June 2025, LYB announced entering into an agreement and exclusive negotiations for the sale of four olefins & polyolefins sites and the associated business in Europe. The sites to be sold are located in Berre (France), Münchsmünster (Germany), Carrington (UK), and Tarragona (Spain). The sites together represent a scaled olefins and polyolefins platform strategically located in proximity to a longstanding customer base and with access and connectivity to key infrastructure.  

Closing of the proposed transaction is currently expected in the first half of 2026. From the start, the new company will be a scaled leader in European Olefins & Polyolefins. Powered by strategically located assets, a diverse product portfolio, and operational excellence, it aims to transform the business, fostering an agile, entrepreneurial culture where fast decision-making and hands-on collaboration drive transformation and growth.

This position is responsible for the governance of all legal entities financial accounting and reporting and internal controls relative to statutory accounts as per local GAAP and IFRS reporting and preparation and review of the annual IFRS annual report. In addition, this position is responsible for overseeing and managing the company’s shared services functions. The Director oversees a staff responsible for activities related to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General accounting and other Finance related activities driving streamlined operations, reduced costs, and improved efficiency. 

A Day in the Life

  • To lead a group of financial accountants, overseeing all legal entities for the company.  This individual would also be the ultimate customer for any relevant services provided under a service level agreement (“SLA”) by the Company’s shared services function (captive or outsourced).
  • Monitor the performance of Source to Pay, Order to Cash and Record to Report processes, review deviations in performance against benchmarks (Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators) and initiate actions to remediate.
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities.
  • Oversight of Financial Accounting transactional activity as provided through the Shared Services model.
  • To manage the monthly-close accounting and reconciliation activities for all entities.
  • To ensure timely submission of the statutory accounts for all companies and ensure completion of other local financial reporting obligations as required.
  • To be the main focal point for the external auditor.
  • To lead or oversee statutory audits of legal entities.
  • To ensure that local statutory issues are addressed and provide supporting oversight/coordination of the activities performed by the Finance groups in the countries.
  • To ensure that a proper legal entity view is maintained in the monthly, quarterly, and yearly closing process and that adequate controls are executed accordingly for proper representation of legal entity performance to local Directors and constituencies.
  • Prepare and / or present legal entity performance for/to relevant internal or external stakeholders, for example, Executive leadership, legal entity directors, works councils.
  • To ensure coverage of non-standard accounting matters affecting the countries (such as VAT, pensions, FX, hedge accounting, tax audits, transfer pricing, etc.) in close coordination with the functions directly responsible for them (e.g. Tax, Treasury, Shared Services, etc.).
  • Builds and develops a high performing team with benchmarked role profiles, competency framework, team skills gap assessment and appropriate recruitment plan. Manages the hiring process within the agreed headcount budget, ensuring appropriate talent pool is developed, selected and maintained.
  • Drives and rewards a culture of performance within the team, ensuring the company’s performance management process is embedded and delivered within the timelines. This includes ensuring formal performance reviews are conducted to provide real-time affirmative and constructive feedback that is linked to clearly defined and SMART objectives and goals and development plans are implemented to facilitate career path aspirations.
  • Leads and coaches direct reports to ensure efficient and effective delivery of operational responsibilities.
  • Act as focal point for Corporate transactions and initiatives, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, ERP/System implementations, transformation activities, legal entity restructurings, valuations, etc.
  • Advise on, monitor, and coordinate distributions, financings, and other capital structure actions for entities.
  • To identify, develop, and support implementation of value generating opportunities for Enterprise Shared Services and Process Excellence.

You Bring This Value

  • University-level finance-related qualification (finance, accounting).
  • Professional Accountancy Qualification (RA/CPA/Chartered Accountant) is required.
  • 15+ years of experience in Finance/Accounting profession in complex/multinational organizations.
  • Experienced in leading a Financial Shared Service or similar function in an organization with similar operational scale and geographic footprint.
  • Solid technical accounting knowledge in accordance with IFRS and Dutch GAAP.
  • Ability to quickly develop technical accounting knowledge in other local GAAPs within the managed countries.
  • Experience with preparation of statutory accounts in accordance with Dutch GAAP.
  • Experience with Internal Controls.
  • 7+ years of experience in leading teams.
  • Strong computer skills and proficient in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint and Access.
  • Experience in process design and implementation within a financial software package (ideally SAP).
  • Strong verbal and written English required, and desirable for other European languages.
