This is the role
The Counsel, Sustainability & Corporate Affairs role is part of the legal team that provides support to LyondellBasell’s sustainability strategy, government relations and corporate communications function. In this role, you will focus on European legislative and policy developments, advising the European government relations team, and supporting related sustainability strategies and communications.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as primary legal support for the European government relations team
- Assess impacts and provide advice and counsel on pending and anticipated legislation and regulations impacting the company, particularly in the area of sustainability
- Review and provide input on advocacy strategies and positions, responses to consultations and other public submittals
- Provide guidance on European trade group participation strategy and participate in trade groups as required
- Provide legal support for government subsidy and funding opportunities aligned to the company’s sustainability strategy
- Provide legal support for sustainability disclosures, ratings and reporting
- Review corporate communications
- Support development of sustainability strategies
This is who you are
- Excellent knowledge of EU political process and governance, and experience advising on EU legislative and regulatory issues
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and oral and written communication skills with experience working in an English-speaking and/or multinational business environment
- Strong legal drafting and negotiation skills, and ability to work with various stakeholders to effectively craft and deliver policy messages and positions
- Organizational and analytical skills, detail-oriented, and ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in a dynamic environment
- Solution oriented and a positive mindset
- Some travel required
- Desire to contribute to circular and low carbon transformation
This is what you bring
- Law degree and bar qualified lawyer in The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Italy, or France, or qualified solicitor in the United Kingdom;
- Minimum of 5 years post-qualification work experience in an international law firm or company;
- Experience in the petrochemical industry is preferred;
- Fluent in English and at least one of the following languages: Dutch, French, German, or Italian.
