This is the role

As the Buyer Marine Freight you are responsible to procure export container transport and freight forwarding and ad-hoc freight service agreements for all LyondellBasell. You will process service sourcing according to agreed purchasing strategies & internal policies, in a legal and ethical manner. You are responsible for coordinating LyondellBasell’s global ocean freight RFQ process, negotiate and complete contracts with shipping lines and forwarders. You are accountable for efficient contract implementation to LyondellBasell operations. Throughout contract periods, you will monitor and manage vendor relationships with set KPIs. This is a central role to shape company’s global sourcing strategy for container transport & freight forwarding services and deploy and manage strategies in contracting. 

 

In this role you will monitor market conditions and leverage them in contracting to maximize value delivered to LyondellBasell. That requires constant communication with internal stakeholders and inform them transport market challenges and opportunities. You make sure you understand the needs of your internal stakeholders and LyondellBasell customers and you’ll convert them to service contracting requirements and internal cross departmental process improvements.  The role supports Global Supply Chain’s sustainability strategy and you are accountable to support activities in reporting and seek CO2 reduction opportunities in the container transport chain. This role requires constant teamwork to ensure efficient service coverage in all times. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Procure, negotiate and manage ocean transport contracts and related services according to company’s strategies and internal policies;
  • Coordinate annual global container freight RFQ and present results to internal stakeholders;
  • Set up regular performance review meetings with carriers and freight forwarders and evaluate their performance with agreed KPI scorecards;
  • Manage agreed benchmark initiatives. Continuously collect market information and report it to internal stakeholders;
  • Initiate and maintain detailed freight forwarding procedures and have them documented;
  • Seek CO2 saving initiatives in own transport area and response sustainability related requests.

You have extensive commercial experience in container shipping and freight forwarding, excelling in negotiation and demonstrating exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Your outstanding communication skills allow you to articulate thoughts clearly and concisely. With strong networking abilities and adaptability in multicultural environments, you are an invaluable asset to any team.

This is what you bring

  • Master degree in Supply Chain Management or Business Administration;
  • Advanced Excel skills are essential; Experience with PowerBI is an advantage;
  • Min 3 years working experience in the container shipping or freight forwarding industry or in an equivalent commercial position;
  • Fluent in English. Being fluent in Dutch, German or Spanish will be a plus.
