This is the role

 

Develop long- and medium term strategies in combination with business management related to Butane feedstock to maximize TBA chain profitability for our PO/TBA assets in Europe.  As one of the largest European consumers of Butane  you will be responsible for the procurement of more than 1 million tons of Butane per year. Optimize our logistical assets to maximize the value for PO/TBA and supply into our European crackers. Identify and develop both long and short-term market opportunities globally for the procurement of Butane and ensure alignment/optimization between PO/TBA and cracker sourcing of LPG. Negotiate and manage commercial arrangements that provide LyondellBasell flexible, reliable, timely and economic feedstock which result in healthy and improving TBA chain profit margins.

 

Charged with managing the opportunities and risks associated with a 900 MM$ per year Butane portfolio next to 5 MM$ infrastructure contracts. Responsible for cross-functional staff communications including planning, technology, supply logistics, credit, accounting and global business optimization in a dynamic real-time market environment. Must be able to adjust strategies and tactics to ever changing manufacturing and market conditions. Develop cost reduction and revenue enhancement projects and drive Capex investments to facilitate further growth. Act as European expert within LyondellBasell on Butane/LPG markets and their trends, working closely with the TBA Marketing Managers and Global Business Director in terms of strategy and potential tolling deals.

 

Working with the manufacturing teams in our two POTBA plants in Europe to ensure the right quality requirements are in place and challenged at times to ensure maximum commercial optionality

Roles & Responsibilities

 

 

  • Manage European butane purchases and sales for two PO/TBA plants in Europe, Monitor performance and effectiveness of activities against targets and take action as required
  • Responsible for understanding global LPG market fundamentals, regional interactions, relationships with the futures markets, and cross product interdependencies. Responsible for effective communication to senior management. Understands enterprise future butane requirements including business scenarios which may lead to revisions, inventory requirements, impact on working capital, price trends and market shifts. Use this information to develop and execute long-term purchase and inventory strategies
  • Responsible for developing butane price forecasts used as input for global optimization and other business processes
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier/customer relationships and represent LyondellBasell in appropriate industry associations and events
  • Drive profit generating projects for Capex investments and bring opportunity to Leadership team
  • Drive successful execution of approved capital projects to be in time and on budget
  • Work closely together with back office to drive for efficient and effective processes 
  • Develop and execute butane inventory and/or margin hedge programs (when appropriate) to protect corporate P&L against price spikes or supply disruptions. Develop and utilize current e-commerce trading platforms to enhance purchasing/sales results
  • Commercially responsible for butane storage- and throughput agreements with yearly revenues of around USD 5 MM
  • Executing medium- and short-term tactics in a volatile and competitive butane spot market. Negotiating spot deals of up to USD 25 MM each and negotiating 5 to 10 term contracts on a yearly basis. Ensure alignment and optimization between I&D and cracker sourcing
  • Act as liaison with other business and manufacturing groups within LyondellBasell to ensure that company strategies and directives involving butanes are known and met. Works with Marketing, Optimization (within I&D and O&P), and Manufacturing to optimize contract portfolio. Communicate market trends to groups within LyondellBasell who need this information to optimize their performance

This is what you bring

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering Required.  Master’s Degree preferred
  • Fifteen years’ experience preferred in petrochemical or oil and gas industry, with at least 5-10 years commercial experience
  • Preferably proven commodity trading experience
  • Excellent English language skills required
