This position is open at our Tarragona site, part of our Advanced Polymer Solutions (APS) business. As Plant Engineer you will be part of the Operations PPC department and report to the Operations Manager PPC. You will be working closely together with the Operators, the Technical Plant Support engineer and other departments, like Maintenance, Projects and HSE and innovation.

You supervise the correct functioning of production process equipment, providing technical support for problem solving and improving the quality of the final product. You identify and define improvements or projects to be carried out to ensure safety, productivity, reliability, cost savings in both fixed and variable expenses, and energy efficiency. You participate in the analysis of occupational safety, environmental, and process safety incidents, and you define and supervise the implementation of corrective measures. You manage the plant’s information systems to ensure proper recording and analysis of process variables and the detection of malfunctions, enabling the development of effective improvement plans.

A Day in the Life

  • Provide technical support to the plant to improve HSE conditions, production volumes and product quality.
  • Basic definition of improvement and energy efficiency projects. Provide technical support during detailed engineering, execution and commissioning.
  • Identify and coordinate improvements with the Maintenance department to increase plant reliability and reduce costs.
  • Ensure that both the inspection and preventive maintenance plans are carried out within the specified deadlines.
  • Contact suppliers and technical services.
  • Issue orders for the purchase of materials/services.
  • Prepare work instructions for new equipment or minor modifications installed in the plant. Provide the corresponding training.
  • Manage in the company databases, incidents related to process safety, occupational safety, environment or reliability. Supervise the implementation of corrective actions within the specified time frame.
  • Evaluate staff improvement proposals.
  • Actively participate in technical information exchange activities with company experts (TKM, etc.).
  • Collaborate in the Management Systems applicable to the site, such as ISO 9001, ITAF16949, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and OCS.
  • Participate in the design/modification of quality AMFE processes.
  • Contribute to site security by taking on weekly (PAU) guard duty, according to the established annual calendar.
  • Supervise and maintain compliance during all operations with applicable legal, corporate and local requirements in terms of safety, environment and energy efficiency, including OCS.
  • Manage and maintain department databases, ensuring their integrity and availability.
  • Develop and maintain automated IT tools for data extraction and analysis using Excel macros (Visual Basic) and SQL queries.  
  • Provide technical support in the site digitalization roadmap and report automation to improve operational efficiency.
  • Perform the duties of the Operations Manager in their absence.
  • In the absence of the Technical Assistant, perform their duties of coordinating the plant's activities with other departments.

You Bring This Value

  • University degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry;
  • Years of experience in engineering role in chemical plants and processes, products, process safety, energy efficiency;
  • Basic IT capabilities as: SAP R3, Excel, Word, PowerPoint;
  • Basic knowledge of SQL databases (queries, maintenance, and data extraction) is appreciated, as the knowledge of process automation programming, preferably Visual Basic for applications (Excel macros), and the ability to integrate data from different systems and generate automated reports;
  • Experience working in a chemical plant is appreciated;
  • Fluent verbal and written skills in English and Spanish.
