This is the role

As Renewable Energy Analyst at LyondellBasell you will be a key player in the implementation of  the regional energy transition strategy. You act as the link pin between the company’s long-term vision on greenhouse gas reduction and the dynamic renewable energy markets, contributing to the development and implementation of the strategic renewable power sourcing and portfolio strategy  to meet the corporate sustainability objectives.
 
You will support the entire renewable energy sourcing process, strategic portfolio and operations management.  Furthermore you analyze the EU renewable electricity markets, find and originate new renewable energy project opportunities, provide pricing analyses in support of the bidding process, and support the PPA contract negotiations and execution. After contract execution, you will continually monitor the agreement’s performance versus contractual commitments and will take action and involve the right stakeholders when needed.  You support the allocation of the renewable electricity and related certificates to the sites within the region and monitor and report on the value versus associated costs. 

 

Responsibilities & accountabilities:

  • Support development and execution of renewable energy strategies in context of rapidly developing regional political landscape and climate ambitions
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for renewable energy projects, partnerships and consortia, aligning with the overall strategy 
  • Use external data models and pricing projections to analyze future electricity market dynamics and to prepare price bids for PPA negotiation
  • Develop and manage key external stakeholder relationships including renewable energy developers, brokers, consortia, and consultants
  • Support negotiations on renewable power purchase agreements and align internally on multiple levels (up to senior leadership)
  • Develop strategic options (e.g. on-site solar) which require complex and resource intensive internal cross functional engagement
  • Understand and drive consensus on the sometimes conflicting needs of internal stakeholders (site manager, business directors)
  • Develop complex ‘should cost’ models and financial metrics based on market intelligence of RE technology, business strategies and scenarios
  • Understand and interpret financial and macro/micro economic information/data from European electricity and renewables markets and use this data to further optimize the renewable energy sourcing and portfolio strategy  
  • Monitor and report on the cost, both total cost and cost/MWh, for each individual renewable energy agreement and the aggregate cost of the regional portfolio
  • Ensure EACs delivered to LYB match the project’s production by verifying Developer’s invoice data with EACs received in the different registry systems.

The Renewable Energy Analyst is interactive, analytical and knows how to connect with people on all levels keeping stakeholders aligned with well-developed interpersonal skills and business acumen. You know how to manage internal client and supplier relationships effectively and are  able to convincingly influence decision makers and stakeholders. Other important competences are:

  • Excellent communication skills. Understands cultural differences and how to develop and implement results at different regional environments, markets, conditions, laws and legislations across Europe
  • Passionate about the global energy transition and supporting  LyondellBasell to reach its ambitious sustainability targets 
  • Ability to understand and explain complex market/pricing and risk management mechanisms, regulatory developments and legal wording
  • Ability to make data driven decisions 

 

This is what you bring

  • University degree in engineering , technology, energy management, or other related disciplines  
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience working in European energy and utility markets, ideally with exposure to renewable energy and PPAs. 
  • Commercial affinity with complex energy contracts
  • Good Excel modelling skills 
  • Knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and implement portfolio management and sourcing strategies
  • Experience in managing internal and external relationships
  • Demonstrated ability in developing business cases and assessing opportunities
  • Fluent in English, a second language is preferred (German, French, Dutch)
