Basic Function

LyondellBasell is significantly stepping up its sustainability commitments, execution and visibility with ambitious corporate sustainability strategies and targets.

This position acts as an LCA Specialist for the Global Advance Polymers Solutions (APS) organization. The role reports to the APS Sustainability Manager within the Global Innovation department and will collaborate with the Life Cycle Metrics team within the LYB sustainability Corporate team.

 

  • Responsible to manage the development and implement LCA methodologies for and across the different APS businesses and regions following the business case needs and priorities. While APS will manage its LCAs and Carbon Footprint data in an autonomous way, it will ensure that  the approach remains aligned  at high level with the one used for other LYB businesses.
  • Take care of and own the relevant data collection process, take decisions about the use of different standards, and select the most suitable LCA tools and support the business stakeholders on the communication of the findings.
  • Collaborates and support the APS Sustainability manager and work closely with sustainable procurement to engage and gather carbon footprint data from key suppliers to include them in the APS LCA model.
  • Support interdisciplinary projects with a focus on the reduction of GHG emissions and other environmental sustainability topics involving significant stakeholder management for the different APS businesses.
  • Generate, provide and track the LCA related information to be communicated to our customers throughout the commercial teams.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Leads the Product Carbon footprint (PCF) calculation and conducts Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) of APS product line and the respective sustainable versions which are Polypropylene compounds, engineered plastics, masterbatch, CPC, SP, EC,  in line with APS sustainability Strategy and priorities.
  • Develop the appropriate tools and Software to calculate the PCF and LCA for APS product families and validate them internally and externally to make sure that results are consistent with the standards and that data generated can be substantiated. Develop and manage external publication of LCA results and product data in Environmental Product Declarations
  • Responding to global audits and verifications. Providing LCAs required for global sustainability certifications.
  • Prioritize LCA projects across the different APS businesses divisions and regions according on market demand and macro-trends.
  • Teamwork is key: cooperate with the APS commercial teams, procurement, manufacturing in order to collect data to calculate LCA of APS products (considering the whole value chain scope of APS) and with Sustainability Corporate Department.
  • Stay updated on process models used to calculate LCAs and carbon footprints and competition activity.
  • Lead under the guidance of the APS Sustainability manager and working in close collaboration with business partners any opportunity for improvement and drive APS LCA/PCF strategy evolution to establish APS as a leader.
  • Provide training to the commercial organization on LCA and how to communicate the results with customers. Support customers discussions as advisor related to LCA, methodologies and carbon footprint. Evaluate the GHG reduction opportunities on the final products based on the sustainability offering of APS key suppliers.  Attend and represent LyondellBasell in specific external working groups related to LCA.

Min. Qualifications

  • MSc of Science in Environmental or Environmental Engineering is preferred. Chemical/ Mechanical Engineering would be also considered.
  • University degree ideally in natural sciences, engineering or a comparable course of study.
  • 2 years of experience in industrial companies, consultancies or FMCG focused on Life Cycle Assessments.
  • Knowledge of data Analytics (Power BI, GaBi, Excel and other digital applications) to provide business solutions to the whole organization on managing the LCA data.
  • English required
  • Additional languages would be a plus

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good understanding of LCA methodology as well as first experience in its practical application
  • Passion for calculating and understanding environmental impact with excellent analytical skills, an eye for details, a structured work approach and prioritizing skills as well as problem-solving orientation and planning skills.
  • Overview of available life cycle metrics standards (e.g. ISO 14040/44, ISO 14067, TfS Scope 3 standard, JRC - the plastics method) in the chemicals and related sectors (EPD standards) is an advantage
  • Aptitude for learning new software, and previous experience with GaBi or other LCA software is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative but also a team player with a strong work ethic, a can-do attitude and a collaborative mindset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills together with solid stakeholder management skills.
  • Project Management to accomplish deliverables and deadlines.
  • First experiences in stakeholder engagement (internal and/or external) are desirable.
