Automation Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Terraform modules and configurations for AWS and Azure infrastructure provisioning, following enterprise standards and compliance requirements (e.g., CIS Benchmarks, ISO 27001 controls)
• Develop and manage GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines for both infrastructure deployments and COTS software update automation
• Build and maintain bidirectional integrations between cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), IaC pipelines, and ServiceNow, including:
• Automated CMDB population, CI lifecycle management, and change record creation/closure triggered by pipeline events
• Infrastructure provisioning and decommission actions gated on or reflected in ServiceNow change management workflows
• Maintenance of audit trail integrity across all automated operations
• Partner with the third-party managed services vendor to codify operational runbooks into automated workflows, reducing manual intervention and improving repeatability
• Contribute to the team’s Center of Excellence framework — establishing standards, reusable patterns, and internal documentation for cloud automation practices
• Support the evaluation and adoption of AI-Ops tooling and patterns, including integrating AI-assisted capabilities into existing DevOps and ServiceNow workflows
• Participate in compliance and governance automation, ensuring infrastructure deployments are auditable and policy-compliant by design
• Collaborate cross-functionally with application teams, security, the ServiceNow platform team, and the vendor partner to ensure automation solutions are aligned with business and operational requirements

Required Skills & Experience

• 5+ years of experience in DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or platform engineering roles
• Hands-on Terraform experience in AWS and/or Azure environments — module authoring, state management, workspace strategies
• Proficiency with GitHub and GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipeline development
• Demonstrated experience integrating automation pipelines or cloud platforms with ServiceNow, including one or more of the following:
• CMDB CI creation, update, and relationship mapping via ServiceNow APIs or MID Server
• Automated change request creation, approval gating, and closure from pipeline events
• Incident or problem record creation triggered by monitoring or compliance tooling
• Use of ServiceNow Flow Designer or IntegrationHub for orchestration workflows
• Solid understanding of cloud networking, IAM, and security fundamentals in AWS and/or Azure
• Experience with scripting languages used in automation contexts (Python, Bash, or PowerShell)
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks or policy-as-code tooling (e.g., AWS Config, Azure Policy, OPA/Rego, or similar)
• Comfort working in a hybrid model alongside a managed services vendor — able to influence without direct operational control

Nice to Have

• Experience with ServiceNow Discovery or Service Graph Connectors for automated cloud asset visibility
• Familiarity with ServiceNow ITOM or Cloud Management Platform (CMP) modules in the context of multi-cloud environments
• Experience with AI/ML-adjacent tooling in an operations or DevOps context (e.g., AIOps platforms, LLM API integration, intelligent alerting)
• Exposure to AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, or similar managed AI services
• AWS or Azure professional-level certifications
• Experience in regulated or compliance-heavy industries (manufacturing, chemical, energy, or similar)

What Makes This Role Distinctive
AI-Ops — the use of AI and machine learning to automate and augment IT operations — is an emerging discipline, and we are not expecting candidates who have already done this job under that label. What we are looking for is someone with the engineering fundamentals to build toward it: strong IaC skills, CI/CD discipline, real-world ServiceNow integration experience, and genuine curiosity about where AI fits into infrastructure delivery.
