The Technology Development and Services (TDS) Engineer is responsible for driving product modifications, supporting manufacturing plant in scale up and process improvements, and providing technical service to customers. This position will report into the PAD manager. #LI-LL2

In this role the individual is responsible for providing focused technical leadership and support regarding the processing and performance of supplied products to our Manufacturing operations and to customers in the following areas: Clarify technical and commercial requirements for new applications and suggest suitable products that provide value to the application. Provide support to Manufacturing during scale up of new formulations. Provide support to the commercial, Quality and Product and Application Development (PAD) teams at the customer during molding trials. Direct troubleshooting applications with process and or tooling concerns at customer Plant location(s). Assist customers regarding cost savings or process optimization opportunities. Assist in the growth of EC business by identifying and influencing share-shift opportunities and promoting future program awards. Participate and present in customer workshops, lunch and learns as required. Accurately and effectively manage communications and deliverables between the Customer, Sales Account Manager, New Business Development (NBD) and Product Application Development (PAD) for all assigned projects. Work with Sales Account Managers to develop a business strategy for all assigned accounts to achieve EC business plans (current business) and new business awards at assigned customers (future growth). Support Plant Quality, Sales and PAD in external quality claims. Assist in the validation of compound product transfers or product rationalizations.

A Day in the Life

  • Promote Goal Zero, safety, housekeeping, and compliance policies and practices: Support Goal Zero, safety, housekeeping, and compliance policies and practices.  Operate in a safe, clean, and productive manner.  Support efforts to enhance the safety of Lyondellbasell operations (for example assist in safe handling and use of raw materials in development and manufacturing, actively participating in HSE team, and actively participating in safety audits…).  Promote all aspects of the Lyondellbasell Health, Safety, and Environmental guidelines.
  • Product Modifications: Lead and contribute to product modifications including lab evaluations and scale up in manufacturing in efficient manner to establish robust manufacturability and to meet the customer requirements. Lead and contribute to cost reduction and alternate raw material qualifications.
  • Technical Service: Utilize understanding of the materials and their properties and customer processing to support customer molding trials. Troubleshooting molding process to improve customer experience and success. Read and interpret technical documents such as procedures or tool specifications. Write trial reports effectively and interact with customers and internal teams to clarify and lead product trials and ramp ups.
  • Plant Support: Act as a liaison between PAD and Manufacturing supporting trials.  and product processability. Act as a technical consultant to manufacturing sites for product or process related items.  Support quality and other investigations. Develop an understanding of the manufacturing processes and systems to support project work pertaining to product modifications or scale up of new products supporting other members of the Technology team. Support other improvement efforts at Manufacturing as assigned on scrap reduction, efficiency enhancement, etc. as a representative of Technology team.

You Bring This Value

  • The position requires a University / College degree in Engineering, Materials or Polymer Science or Technical Discipline.
  • 5 years of relevant experience particularly in Product Development or Technical Service interfacing with Manufacturing preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication, ability to multitask, problem-solving, and project management skills for working in a collaborative, matrixed, cross functional teams.
