LyondellBasell is hiring a Tank Farm and Lab Operations Manager for the Bayport POTBA site, located 25 miles from downtown Houston, TX. This site consists of three POTBA plants that produce propylene oxide (PO), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), propylene glycol, propylene glycol ethers, tertiary butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP), and ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE).


As a member of our dynamic team, you will manage the Bayport POTBA’s site’s tank farm and laboratory operations areas and ensure these areas are operated and maintained in a safe, efficient, reliable and cost- effective manner.

A Day in the Life

  •  Provide leadership and supervision for the Tank Farm and Lab including:
    • 5 direct reports (1 process specialist and 4 shift supervisors) in the Tank Farm with a team size of 44.
    • 4 direct reports (1 Chemist/Supervisor, 1 Laboratory Specialist, and 2 Quality Analysts) in the Lab with a team size of 18.
  • Develop and coach your team via dialogue to continuously improve knowledge, skills, and ability. Hold people accountable and develop successors and talent pools.
  • Understand the importance and the appropriate utilization of teams and teamwork in achieving business objectives; foster teamwork and collaboration; demonstrate ability to mold and build team spirit, working relationships, and decision-making processes required in a dynamic and competitive business environment.
  • Ensure alignment with corporate goals, policies, and procedures by communicating clear performance and business expectations and identifying key business drivers.
  • Develop and monitor area and asset team performance against key performance indicators (KPI's) and develop plans for the area to meet/exceed the KPI's.
  • Quickly assess a situation and take responsibility for a course of action; recognize when to involve other people in decision-making or decide on one's own; know when and how to empower self and others; know when to act quickly or respond with more thought and deliberation.
  • Know in appropriate detail the technical information and specifics relevant to the products and/or services provided by company and the processes used to produce and distribute them; possess sufficient comfort in key technical areas to adequately plan for the future and identify critical discontinuities
  • Oversee prioritization of maintenance work and key capital projects.
  • Translate and integrate Company strategies into objectives and action plans; planning, organizing, and measuring goal progress toward achieving world-class results with a focus on cost, value, and operational excellence; implementing changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness of processes.
  • Define and implement world class quality systems and techniques while maintaining ISO 9001:2015 compliance and assure full compliance with cGMP for associated food grade products.
  • Understand analytical technology and laboratory instrumentation, unit processes, statistical quality control, ISO quality systems, laboratory computer database systems, and HSE requirements.
  • Ensure the Code of Conduct, and all other Company policies are consistently and fairly administered.
  • Develop and manage the budget for all areas of responsibility.
  • Overall responsibility for product loading and unloading operations including truck, rail and pipeline movements.
  • Overall responsibility for Tank Farm operations including raw material storage, intermediate storage and product storage tanks & feed pumps.
  • Responsibility of plant logistics for raw material deliveries and product shipments. 
  • Maintain positive relationships with suppliers and key customers.
  • Oversee audits for current process to ensure workflows are effective.

You Bring This Value

•    B.S. in Chemical Engineering with eight years’ experience or ten years’ experience in positions of increasing responsibility in petrochemical or refining operations in lieu of a degree.
•    Previous supervisory experience is required.
•    Knowledge of SAP is required.
 
•    Demonstrated leadership ability and strong interpersonal skills
•    A solid technical background with good computer skills
