Basic Function

The Bayport BLO Site is seeking a professional Health and Safety Specialist.  The Health and Safety Specialist is a member of the Health, Safety, Environmental and Training team and is responsible for safety related processes that help drive continuous improvement toward Goal Zero performance.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide safety support to achieve compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Serve as a resource to the BLO Site by providing knowledge of health and safety standards/programs.
  • Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
    • Identify and drive improvements to existing safety programs.
    • Lead and guide continuous improvement in the safety culture.
    • Lead and/or participate in site health and safety teams.
  • Develop and update written safety programs such as:
    • Audit health and safety programs and procedures for field compliance.
    • Participate in incident investigations.
    • Develop, coordinate, and deliver related training.
    • Support the site OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).
    • Provide mentoring and direction to site employees and contractors.
    • Participate in internal and outside safety related organizations as requested.
    • Implement cost effective and innovative safety solutions.
    • Participate in safety support for outages and turnarounds.

Min. Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a refining or petrochemical manufacturing environment. OR an Associate’s Degree (or higher) and 4 years of relevant refining or petrochemical manufacturing experience. 
    • Previous experience with supporting safety work processes in a manufacturing environment.
    • Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. 
    • A demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and prioritize the goals of the team ahead of self-interests. 

Preferred Qualifications

•    Direct experience working in safety role in developing, improving, and implementing safety practices and programs.  
•    Knowledge or experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Elements.
