Basic Function
This is a working Team Lead reporting to the Bayport Polymers Reliability Manager. The Reliability Team Lead will coach, mentor and supervise Maintenance Engineers and Reliability Engineers to establish Bayport Polymers’ equipment maintenance strategy to ensure the site’s physical assets function according to defined standards of performance; and as Maintenance and Operations executes the strategy, measure, analyze and continuously improve it. This is a developmental role for an Engineer seeking to become a future LyondellBasell Manager. As this is a working Team Lead, the Reliability Team Lead will also serve as the Instrument, Electrical and Analyzer (IEA) Reliability Engineer for the site.
Roles & Responsibilities
Reliability Team Lead
• Lead a multi-discipline team of Mechanical and IEA Maintenance Engineers to systematically develop, monitor and continuously improve a maintenance strategy that ensures the site’s assets will function as required and realize value throughout their life cycles.
• Assign responsibilities for Engineers for support of routine, outage, turnaround and Program Maintenance; small capital projects and Operational Excellence (OE) and Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.
• Ensure site performance key performance indicators (KPI) are met through active management of team members’ workload and performance.
• Direct team involvement in the identification of improvement opportunities and assign Engineering resources for work scope development and implementation support of improvements.
• Manage risk to the achievement of an organization’s strategic objectives in the areas of environmental health and safety, asset capability, quality and production.
• Ensure team members comply with safety policies, procedures and workplace practices to achieve GoalZERO.
• Facilitate team member development through observation, coaching and continuous feedback.
• Complete performance appraisals and individual development plans for team members.
• Participate in Short Term Incentive (STI) and Merit increase determinations for team members.
• Improve group performance through implementation of work process improvements and system enhancements.
Instrument, Electrical and Analyzer (IEA) Reliability Engineer
• Systematically develop, monitor and continuously improve an Instrument, Electrical and Analyzer asset maintenance strategy that ensures assets will function as required and realize value throughout their life cycles. Task types include:
o Predictive Maintenance or PdM (e.g., AMS, PdMA)
o Preventive Maintenance or PM (e.g., instrument calibration, control valve overhauls)
o Failure-finding (e.g., proof-testing of safety-instrumented systems)
o Corrective Maintenance (e.g., replacement work instructions, repair plans)
• Ensure spare parts are held in sufficient quantity to appropriately manage asset unavailability risk.
• Lead or support troubleshooting efforts when assets do not perform as intended.
• Lead or support Incident investigations and root cause analyses (RCA).
• Leverage learning from experience (LFE) to continuously improve the asset maintenance strategy and LyondellBasell’s broader asset management systems.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary asset performance improvement teams.
• Apply data analysis techniques to develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and other problems that adversely affect process safety, personnel safety, environmental, regulatory, operational and quality performance.
• Apply value analysis (e.g., life cycle cost analysis) to repair/replace, repair/redesign and make/buy decisions.
• Provide technical support/expertise within your discipline during the front-end engineering and design (FEED) and execution phases of capital projects to ensure newly-installed and modified assets realize value throughout their life cycle.
• Collaborate with peers at the site and across LyondellBasell.

Min. Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Electrical or Nuclear Engineering with a minimum of 10 years relevant, proven experience in maintaining and improving IEA asset performance in the refining, petrochemical, chemical process, power generation or nuclear industries.
• Proven ability to systematically develop, monitor and continuously improve Instrument and Electrical asset maintenance strategies.
• Proven, basic proficiency in the following areas:
o Industry codes and standards (e.g., IEEE, ISA, NFPA, NEC, NETA)
o Instrumentation and measurement technology
o PLC programming and maintenance
o Analyzers and sample systems
o Low and medium voltage power distribution and control systems
o Component failure analysis
o Reliability engineering concepts
o Reliability data analysis techniques
o Project management process (PMP)
o Application of computer software (SAP, AMS, CONVAL, ExSILentia, Power BI)
• Strong interpersonal leadership skills are critical due to the requirement for effective communication of complex issues across the organization as well as for mentoring, consensus building and conflict resolution.
• Aptitude for leadership with the ability and willingness to coach, develop and ensure accountability for the direction of technical professionals.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and, at times, conflicting priorities.
• Exhibit an understanding of business drivers, management of change requirements, reliability processes and maintenance workflow.
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to independently identify the business case for change and to develop and execute a strategy to realize the associated value.
• Strong commitment to safety, a high level of personal integrity and dedication to conducting business in an ethical way.
• Application of computer software tools (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Office, AMS, Power BI).
Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with IEC 61511.
• Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE) or TUV Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) certification.
• Independent protection layer (IPL) validation experience.
• Formal or informal supervisory experience.
Selection Process Criteria
Candidates will be formally interviewed by members of the BYO Leadership Team (LT). The LT members will make a recommendation to the BYO Reliability Manager for final approval.
