Basic Function
The Process Safety Engineer is a process safety leader for the LyondellBasell Bayport Complex. The individual will be a key participant in all the PSM programs, as well as identifying improvements to existing programs and developing and implementing improvement solutions. A primary focus for the individual will be to actively participate and lead the PHA and HAZOP process at the complex. The individual will interface with a diverse group of customers including process and project engineering, operations, maintenance, plant management, HSE, and global process safety.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Knowledgeable about OSHA Process Safety Management practices; specifically OSHA 1910.119
- Individual will be responsible to manage, lead and coordinate PHA and HAZOP process and activities at the site. Must be knowledgeable and competent with these processes.
- Knowledgeable about design and application of Independent Protection layers, IPL.
- Knowledgeable about Layers of Protection Analysis, LOPA.
- Familiar with Safety Instrumented Functions, SIF, and associated Safety Instrumented System, SIS, Cause and Effect Charts, Control System Narrative and Safety Integrity Level, SIL.
- Knowledgeable about Relief System, RV, design and evaluations.
- Write and implement effective procedures that support process safety, including management of change procedure, MOC.
- Monitor and develop key performance indicators (most importantly, leading indicators) to track PSM progress.
- Participate in operational excellence (OE) gap analysis and external OE audits
- Understand PSM implications of incidents and provide guidance to site for proper classification, investigation, and improvements.
- Coordinate process safety knowledge sharing across the site through the process safety journal.
- Communicate external process safety events to the site and share best practices identified within the company.
- Provide oversight and conduct audits for management of change (MOC), pre-start up safety review process (PSSR), and procedure to practice.
- Lead or participate on incident investigations.
- Participate in company process safety technical networks.
- Track and understand action items from Process Hazard Analyses
Min. Qualifications
• Must possess a four-year applicable BS degree in engineering.
• Knowledgeable about PHA and HAZOP processes and have participated and led several.
• A minimum of 6 years' experience in a chemical or petrochemical facility.
• Knowledge of OSHA PSM and related EPA regulatory requirements.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and the ability to present complex topics in a concise manner.
Preferred Qualifications
- Chemical Engineering degree is preferred
