The Process Safety Assurance Team (PSAT) Specialist is a key member of the LYB Bayport POTBA site process safety assurance team.  The primary focus for PSAT Specialist will be field support for operations to champion process safety programs/systems within the site to drive awareness and ownership at the front line level and to strive for excellence in process safety performance.  The PSAT specialist will support operations by providing feedback on performance, in the field coaching/training of new hires, and other continuous learning activities. The individual will interface primarily with operations and technical organizations but will have a diverse group of customers including engineering, operations, maintenance, plant management, HSE, and corporate process safety.

A Day in the Life

  • Direct report to the PSAT Lead.  As a member of the PSAT team, support the PSAT goals and objectives.
  • In the field coaching for operations personnel to drive strong process safety awareness and performance.  Integration of key HOP principles in the site work practices.  Strong focus on driving strong operational discipline practices and development of procedures to support long term success.
  • Measure and report key process safety and operational discipline performance indicators and implement processes that drive improvement.
  • Coordinate process safety knowledge sharing across the site and within LYB.
  • Partner with operations and training organizations to deliver operations new hire training, provide feedback to operations supervision on new operator performance and development, and assist with training/roll out of process changes.
  • Obtain data to measure operations process safety and operational discipline performance and provide feedback to Operations on individual unit performance metrics.  Partner with operations leadership to identify actions to improve performance.
  • Assist the unit specialists with obtaining feedback on operating procedures and incorporating changes into the operating procedures to drive process safety performance.
  • Partner with operations to develop and maintain the unit training manuals, evaluation tests, and participate in the technician panel review process to drive consistency across the site.
  • Coach/mentor operations technicians in the field on key process safety concepts and activities.

You Bring This Value

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience operating a chemical or petrochemical manufacturing facility.  
  • Working knowledge of Operating Discipline and its’ application to an operating unit.  
  • Working knowledge of Operations Technician qualification process, and training and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to provide feedback in a constructive manner to drive improvement.
  • Ability to collaborate across multiple functions to achieve process safety goals.
  • Must have the right to work in the United States without VISA sponsorship.
  • Operations leadership, step-up, or training experience preferred.
