Basic Function

We are currently seeking to fill a position at LyondellBasell’s Bayport Polymers site located 27 miles east of Houston, TX. Our Bayport site has approximately 316 employees and contractors and is a world class chemical manufacturing facility with 4 operating units that produce Polypropylene (PP) resins. The Process Engineering Team Lead is a working team lead for the Bayport Technical department. The individual reports to the Technical Manager for the Bayport site. The lead will coach, mentor, and supervise Process Engineers to ensure development and safe execution of Bayport’s strategic initiatives. This is a developmental role for an Engineer seeking to become a future Manager within LyondellBasell.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Process Engineers and set priorities to provide Process Engineering expertise and support for the Bayport site to resolve strategic site opportunities in reliability, quality, cost, and production rate.
  • Sets high expectations for quality and timeliness of action item (MOC, Intelex, etc.) resolution.
  • Manage Process Engineering resources to participate in PHA’s, investigations, special initiatives and other activities.
  • Sets clear performance expectations, coaches and mentors Process Engineers.
  • Delivers GoalZero performance through strong leadership, employee/contractor involvement, overall site engagement, and full utilization of management systems.
  • Responsible for implementation and adherence of Operational Excellence standards.
  • Responsible for implementation and adherence of corporate standards.
  • Ensures that Code of Conduct and all other LyondellBasell policies are consistently followed and administered within the Technical organization.

Min. Qualifications

  • BS degree in an Engineering field
  • Strong personal leadership skills
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills, and be able to manage performance through effective dialog
  • Good coaching and mentoring skills
  • Good organizational and prioritization skills
  • Commitment to HSE
  • Good computer skills  
  • MOC system qualification or similar MOC experience
  • The ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and through written documents is required
  • Must be a self-starter and be able to seek opportunities for improvements within the site

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering 
  • 6+ years of experience in a refining, petrochemical, or chemical manufacturing environment
  • 4+ years of polymers &/or polymers manufacturing experience
