Basic Function

 

LyondellBasell, one of the largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies in the world, is seeking an experienced Human Resources Consultant for our Bayport Complex, located 26 miles from Downtown Houston. The Bayport Complex is comprised of three manufacturing sites in close proximity to each other hosting approximately 700 employees, plus numerous contractors. 

 

The HR Consultant will have responsibility for the HR partnership role supporting business units at the Bayport site. This position will support all levels of leadership focusing on various Human Resources areas such as employee retention, talent acquisition, performance management, succession planning, onboarding programs, and general HR policies and procedures, etc.
 

Roles & Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide one point of contact for HR support to assist in the achievement of client's business goals and objectives providing strategic partnership/advice to internal client leadership at all levels.
  • Develop employee retention initiatives in partnership with client groups; evaluate retention drivers and turnover statistics; work with management team to develop retention plans and oversees execution of those plans.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to management ensuring the establishment of sound management practices, aligned with HR policy procedure and practices, and consistent decision making processes across the lines of business.
  • Proactively identify business and HR objectives/expectations that will benefit client leaders - manage to completion.
  • Lead the improvement of quality and delivery of HR processes and data requests with zero defects.
  • Assist in negotiation and administration of labor contract with one unionized workforce.
  • Partner with leaders in the development and implementation of organizational structure changes including identifying impact and assisting in the communication as needed.
  • Provide counsel to client leaders in order to proactively anticipate and address complex HR issues impacting the business.
  • Coordinate and lead talent management discussions with assigned business leaders.
  • Partner with the business unit to identify opportunities for staff development and assist managers on creating development plans.
  • Partner with the business unit and Talent Acquisition to obtain skilled talent.
  • Participate in project teams in client organization, providing guidance and support as appropriate.
  • Conduct investigations into complaints of violations of Code of Conduct and human resources policies, and provides written investigation reports to Legal and Compliance.

Min. Qualifications

  • Must have solid HR fundamentals and broad-based experience in HR, including employee relations and knowledge and understanding of EEO laws, Affirmative Action and conflict resolution.
  • Bachelor's degree with a preference in Business Administration or Human Resources Management.
  • Minimum of 6 years’ Human Resources experience. 
  • Proficiency working independently in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exempt-level human resources experience in the chemical, petrochemical or oil and gas industry.
  • Union site experience preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred.
  • PHR or SPHR Certification preferred.
