We are seeking to recruit a Continuous Improvement & Project Engineer at our Crumlin Site.
Our Crumlin site is located approximately 15 miles from the City of Newport in South Wales. The site began operations in 1974, and today produces polypropylene resins used for a wide variety of products. We are one of the world's largest producers of polymers and a leader in polyolefin technologies, we develop, manufacture and market high-quality and innovative products for applications ranging from sustainable transportation and food safety to clean water and quality healthcare.

Basic Function

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Continuous Improvement & Projects Engineer is responsible for optimising our operational processes, ensuring efficiency and driving sustainable improvements. Your expertise in quality control and problem solving will be essential.

The role will require the Continuous Improvement & Projects Engineer to:

  • Evaluate existing process controls and ensure these are being fully adhered to and understood;
  • Ensure processes comply with safety and quality standards;
  • Draft process ideas to reduce costs and improve efficiency;
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures;
  • Train and mentor staff on Lean & CI tools and methodologies;
  • Lead Kaizen events and engage with staff to embed CI & Lean into our culture;

Roles & Responsibilities

The role involves, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Adhere to any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance to company guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Lead training on CI & Lean tools in order to upskill our teams.
  • Working with the Operations Manager to embed Lean & CI into our working practices.
  • Evaluate existing process controls and ensure these are being fully adhered to and understood including PPE & health & safety requirements.
  • Drafting process ideas to reduce costs and improve productivity.
  • Lead process activity sampling activities to identify waste.
  • Evaluate and analyse data to make effective decisions and identify areas for focus
  • Developing & maintaining our standard operating procedures.
  • Support the implementation of our LRP capital projects.

Min. Qualifications

The Continuous Improvement & Projects Engineer will ideally have a proven track record in an industrial, heavy manufacturing environment with practical, hands on experience of implementing Continuous Improvement & Lean. They will have strong organisational & multi-tasking skills with a proven logical approach towards problem solving and a keen eye for detail. They will have the ability to build good relationships across various functional teams within the business, have a “can-do” attitude & be able to remain calm under pressure.

Essential criteria

  • Strong understanding of the Principles of Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement processes.
  • Demonstratable problem-solving skills – driven to solve issues before they escalate and impact on customer.
  • Using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel & Word.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be comfortable communicating with diverse groups of people.
  • Have excellent people relationship skills.
  • Lean or Continuous Improvement training or certification.

Minimum of 4 years experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Able to demonstrate examples of previous Lean implementation success.
  • Six Sigma training
  • HNC/HND
