Position Summary:

The Senior SAP Functional Analyst reports to SAP Manager for the SAP – Record to Report department within LyondellBasell’s (LYB) SAP Center of Excellence (CoE). This is a mid-career role responsible for technology innovation, implementing best in class business solutions and ensuring stable operation in the Finance domain. 
The Senior Functional Analyst is responsible for design, development, deployment and operations of solutions supporting LYB’s Record to Report business process and other interlocking processes. The technology footprint encompasses SAP solution suite - ECC, S/4 and others - and multiple interfacing applications. The job involves partnering with Finance to identify fit-for-purpose IT solutions, coaching junior Analysts, and collaborating with Digital Technology’s Business Interface, Enterprise Architecture and Project Delivery groups. 
The candidate should have a proven record of leading and working in global multi-cultural teams, creating, scaling and operating enterprise Finance solutions in SAP ERP and integrated applications, implementing S/4, and managing SAP operations with application services partner.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Solution ownership

  • Lead SAP ERP Finance implementation, upgrade, and process improvement.
  • Configure SAP FI and CO modules (e.g., General Ledger, Asset Accounting, Inventory Accounting, Period End Closing, Treasury, Taxes, Reporting)
  • Collaborate with Finance and Accounting leaders to gather, analyze, and translate business needs into detailed functional specifications.
  • Troubleshoot system issues, perform root cause analysis, and provide solutions.
  • Support connected applications: Misys Confirmation Matching Services, SAP Trading Platform Integration, Serrala Autobank, Refinitiv DataScope Select, SAP MBC, Vertex, Thomson Reuters OneSource applications.
  • Design, build, test and deploy end-to-end solutions that meet business requirements, and industry and LYB standards.
  • Accountable for quality of solution designed & delivered by externals like application maintenance partners and system integrators.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for automation and standardization to optimize existing business operations.
  • Ensure adherence to LYB standards and industry best practices. 

Operations

  • Oversee incident resolution working with our service provider ensuring timely resolution of issues and effective communication with business stakeholders.
  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.  
  • Maintain solution documentation; improve documentation where required, for example for old custom programs. Create Knowledge Base Articles (KBA).

Technology leadership

  • Building solution roadmap by aligning SAP technology with business goals.
  • Continue to grow knowledge of regulatory requirements and SAP innovations.
  • Train and coach others.

Be ready to travel approximately 20% domestically and internationally, if required by the company. 

Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Management, Engineering, or other related discipline.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in SAP functional design, with a deep focus on the FICO modules.
  • Completion of end-to-end implementations on SAP S/4 and multi-country rollouts.
  • Deep expertise in end-to-end R2R processes, such as journal entry management, account reconciliation, and period-end close, consolidation and reporting.
  • Strong proficiency in SAP S/4HANA, including Material Ledger.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in managing operations of a portfolio of SAP solutions and connected applications, in partnership with an external party.
  • Experience managing ITIL-based support (Incident, Problem, and Change Management) using tools like ServiceNow or SAP Solution Manager and ALM
  • SAP Certified Application Professional (e.g., S/4HANA Financials) or professional accounting designations are highly preferred.
  • Experience of managing SAP projects is preferable. 
  • Knowledge of SAP architecture, market trends, operations and business drivers.
  • Experience in working with global teams and managing time-zone aligned deliverables. 
  • Ability to propose and present a convincing business case and product roadmap to senior leadership.
