Basic function

The Site Electrical Engineer position supports plant operation and reliability improvement efforts. This position includes site-wide responsibility for plant power distribution systems. This position requires successful cooperation with other stakeholders and functions including process engineering, maintenance, capital project team, corporate technical networks, site service contractors as well as 3rd party vendors to improve plant reliability and performance. The successful candidate must have a high level of personal integrity and a commitment to conducting business in an ethical way.


Roles & Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for operations and maintenance of the site power distribution network, site radio systems and site telecoms network infrastructure
  • Ensure site electrical systems and work thereon complies with applicable GE, EU legislatin (BS EN Standards), Corporate HSE standards and Industry best practices. Continuously monitor all legislation updates to ensure continuing compliance
  • Provide technical expertise and support site teams on all electrical power matters
  • Act as the ecletrical focal point for the site to grid operator and energy supplier
  • Hold budget accountability for area of responsibility
  • Maintain the site electrical engineering documentation, manuals and procedures
  • Manage key contractors at the site
  • Assess the competency of site personnel undertaking electrical work
  • Support, mentor and develop direct reports and members of the site electrical team
  • Manage electrical engineering discipline of site projects; submit technical proposals and cost estimates, coordinate project team activities to ensure successful completion
  • Conduct audits of site working practices to ensure adherence to the electrical engineering procedures
  • Actively manage a continuous improvement process



  • M. Sc. in Electrical Engineering
  • Qualified for HV switching to 20 kV
  • Strong interpersonal leadership skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex issues across the organization
  • Ability to mentor ohers and collaborate with peers
  • Understand business drivers, management of change requirements, reliabiltiy processes and maintenance workflow


  • Minimum 15 years of experience with Petro-Chemical associated electrical power systems or similar environment
  • To have held position of "Senior Authorized Person" for working on HV equipment
  • The ideal candidate will have relevant experience in a similar environment, leading the electrical discipline fot the site with proven ability in managing the team to maximum efficiency and cost in a timely manner. The ability to prioritize own workload and that of multiple projects will be essential.


  • Authoritative knowledge of Electricity Regulations DIN VDE-0100 allgemein, DIN VDE 1000-10, DIN VDE 0105-100, DIN VDE 0165 allgemein, DGVU V1/V3
  • Authoritative knowledge of legal Regulations BetrSichV, TRBS
  • Practical experience of high voltage system operation and maintenance including "Schaltberechtigung" qualification
  • Authoritative knowledge of the selection and use of electrical equipment in hazardous areas
  • Proficient in SAP & Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Excellent communicator and relations builder
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in an organized, effective and timely manner
  • Fluency in written and oral German is essential
  • Fluency in written and oral English is important
