Basic Function
This role will be responsible for the monitoring and operation of process equipment used for the safe and reliable operation of the Mont Belvieu, TX storage facility. This role receives direction from a shift supervisor and support from other operations, maintenance and technical personnel.
Roles & Responsibilities
• Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers and promoting a safe work environment; responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations
• Learn and retain process knowledge of the facility and process changes to the site to enable effective operation and detection of unusual process conditions; uses knowledge to troubleshoot and resolve issues
• Provide accurate and timely communication to co-workers
• Exhibit personal leadership in daily activities, task planning, incident investigations, and work performance as they relate to Equistar's key focus areas which include the following: safety, the environment, quality, reliability, and cost of operation
• Take ownership of the facility to ensure product transportation and storage results are satisfied and to ensure the site is maintained in proper operating condition
• Record data readings, utilize plant data control systems, and observe process conditions on a continual basis to maintain good control of the facility
• Place systems in a safe condition for maintenance work, supporting maintenance activities and communicating status to the facility supervisor and co-workers
• Perform minor maintenance on equipment and enter SAP work notifications on equipment in need of maintenance
• Provide ideas, raise concerns, and work with other functions including pipeline management, engineering, and maintenance to improve individual and unit performance
• Participate on committees dealing with investigations, policy and procedure development, and improving the work place environment
• Evaluate the facility's operating status and perform troubleshooting of process and equipment in order to ensure integrity of the pipeline and storage systems, and the timely, accurate product transportation to customers, suppliers and clients
Min. Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED equivalency
• Typically, 1 year of chemical plant experience and/or pipeline (required)
Must be willing to:
• Work 12 hour rotating shifts and provide overtime coverage
• Respond to facility call-outs
• Work with hazardous and/or flammable chemicals (with proper safety precautions, training, and equipment)
• Work around and/or manually interact with heavy equipment
• Work outside, year-round under various weather conditions
• Stand and walk for extended periods of time
• Work in an environment that requires frequent bending, reaching, and lifting
• Enter tight or confined spaces
• Climb heights above 25 feet by climbing stairs and vertical ladders.
Other Requirements
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a diverse set of cross functional groups
• Possess a working level knowledge of work permitting, process safety, and operating discipline
• Read and interpret common P&ID's, equipment drawings, and schematics
• Complete tasks wearing required personal protective equipment which may include fire protective clothing, goggles, face shields, gloves, steel toe boots, hearing protection, respirators, etc.
• Lift up to 50 lbs
• Pass pre-placement testing including a physical exam, drug screening, background check and physical abilities
• Mandatory participation in the Terminal Fire response team.
