Basic Function

The LyondellBasell Equistar Mount Belvieu Terminal is seeking a Maintenance I/E Technician to join our dynamic team. In this position, you will be tasked to apply technical expertise daily to insure the safe and reliable operation of site equipment and to reduce operating costs by executing assigned work according to plan and schedule, noting any job plan deviations, and providing input on improvement opportunities. You will participate in reliability teams to identify and implement reliability driven improvements and committees dealing with investigations, policy and procedure development.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Accountable for personal safety, the safety of co-workers and promoting a safe work environment; responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.
  • Provide technical expertise in the installation, acceptance testing, commissioning, pro-active maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of unit equipment including:
    • Transformers, breakers and other power distribution equipment, motor starters, motors, etc.
    • Level instruments, flow and pressure instruments, control valves, PLC's and other process and machinery control systems.
    • Maintenance to site process equipment
  • Execute scheduled work by:
    • Reviewing assigned job scopes for completeness and understanding.
    • Acquiring all necessary parts, tools, and instructions prior to starting the job to maximize work efficiency.
    • Following all necessary safety procedures and practices to isolate, clear, and work on plant equipment.
    • Ensuring work is completed per company and industry standards.
    • Working with equipment owner to complete task in a safe and timely manner.
    • Updating supervisor on job progress and any problems encountered in completing the defined scope of work.
    • Completing all documentation using a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Respond to tasks as directed by maintenance supervision with the appropriate sense of urgency to minimize impact to process units.
  • Identify and implement reliability driven improvements. This may include participation in site reliability teams.
  • Participate on committees dealing with investigations, policy and procedure development, and improving the workplace environment.
  • Candidate will also be required to mentor other mechanical maintenance technicians when necessary.
  • Engage in frequent developmental dialog with supervisor and others to continually enhance personal and group performance and development.
  • Promote an environment in which everyone is treated with respect.

Min. Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Typically, a minimum 2 years of maintenance experience in both instrument and electrical crafts within Pipeline, Petrochemical, Oil and Gas, or other relevant industry – Required
  • NCCER certification or an certificate of instrumentation from an accredited college or trade school or recognized – Required
  • Previous Pipeline maintenance experience – Strongly Preferred

Additional Expectations:

  • Experience leading teams and the ability to act as liaison assisting/leading contractors.
  • Extensive knowledge of all applicable life critical procedures.
  • Ability to perform all tasks required. Tasks will be final terminations inside lighting panels, SIS & DCS, loop checks and new MOC documentation; good working knowledge of our conduit/cable demolition procedure.
  • Understanding of equipment design and application for various types of electrical and/or instrumentation: pressure, temperature, level and flow devices, transformers, motor starters, circuit breakers, control circuits, etc.
  • Fundamental understanding of specification sheets, loop diagrams, and P&ID's, is required. Technical skills testing will be performed during the hiring process to ensure minimum requirements are met

 

Additionally, the candidates:

  • Must be willing and able to provide overtime coverage
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language
  • Must be willing and able to work occasional plant call-outs
  • Must be willing to work with hazardous and/or flammable chemicals (with proper safety precautions, training and equipment)
  • Must be willing to work around and/or manually interact with heavy equipment
  • Must be willing and able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be willing and able to work in environments that require frequent bending, reaching, and lifting (up to 50 pounds)
  • Must be willing and able to work in tight or confined spaces
  • Must adhere to all rules and procedures, contribute to a team setting,
  • Availability to work shifts including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Complete tasks wearing required personal protective equipment which may include fire protective clothing, goggles, face shields, gloves, steel toe boots, hearing protection, respirators, etc.
  • Basic computer software and hardware familiarity including competency with MS Office (Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Experience with SAP or other computerized Maintenance Management systems
  • Skilled in basic mathematics including first level algebra.
  • High commitment to the craft and willing to learn and accept new challenges.
  • Self-starter, self-driven and capable of leading formal or informal work groups.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, elevated heights (above 25 feet by climbing stairs and vertical ladders) and noisy areas.
  • Able to work outside of a daily routine maintenance schedule.
  • Subject to random company and DOT drug and alcohol testing
