As a member of our dynamic team, you will be responsible for activities relating to the routine surveillance and maintenance necessary to preserve the safe and efficient operations of all related pipeline systems. This position will be filled as an Entry level to Sr. Pipeline Technician dependent on candidate qualifications.

A Day in the Life

  • Responsible for personal safety, the safety of co-workers and the promoting of a safe work environment; responsible for carrying out all work activities in compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Performs their duties in adherence with Lyondell/Equistar & Equistar Pipeline Operations procedures, standards, and specifications.
  • Takes personal leadership role in daily activities, task planning, incident investigations and work performance as they relate to the Lyondell/Equistar key focus areas of Safety, Environmental, Quality, Reliability, and Cost of operation.
  • Provides accurate and timely communication to co-workers and supervision and works with other functions to improve individual and team performance. Provides ideas, raises concerns, and promotes an environment in which everyone is treated with respect.
  • Expected to serve and participate on committees dealing with investigations, policy and procedure development and special groups designed to improve the workplace environment.
  • Participates in the training and skill development of other operations technicians. Engages in frequent developmental dialog with their supervisor and others to continually enhance personal and group performance and development.
  • Provides communications to the Pipeline maintenance departments on equipment outages or potential problems that could affect the operation of the system. Working with the various departments on safety and environmental policies to maintain the integrity of the systems. 
  • Accurately locate pipelines and mark correctly both permanently and temporarily.
  • Supports public awareness, damage prevention and Integrity Management Program (IMP).
  • Coordinates and schedules activities with operations, maintenance, contractors, and other planners.
  • Ability to issue all life critical, routine, and safe work permits.
  • Performs area & perimeter security checks.
  • Responsible for monitoring and maintaining operational and maintenance records of the process systems.
  • Performs basic valve inspection and maintenance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

You Bring This Value

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of pipeline maintenance experience, knowledge of pipeline construction and safety standards as required by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and state regulatory agencies preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of welding and construction procedures, for above and below ground pipeline construction. In addition, it is preferred that the incumbent has knowledge and understanding of DOT regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, alignment sheets, P&IDs, and Flow diagrams as they relate to the construction, operation, and maintenance of pipelines.
  • Ability to work as a team member to develop job plans, schedules and resources needed to implement plans. 
  • Ability to work overtime as required to complete assignments.
  • Knowledge and experience of safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic pipeline operations especially those involving HVL and petrochemical pipelines.
  • Knowledge of excavation methods and excavation safety
  • Knowledge of coating types both below and above ground
  • Knowledge of repair methods and ability to apply underground coating repairs
